Lubricants/lubricating

Halogenated hydrocarbons that are inexpensive sometimes are used alone or in blends with phosphate esters as fire-resistant hydrauHc fluids. Other halogenated fluids are used for oxygen-compressor lubricants, lubricants for vacuum pumps that are in contact with corrosive materials, solvent-resistant lubricants, and other lubricant appHcations where highly corrosive or reactive materials are being handled. [Pg.272]

Lubricants. Lubricants represent a significant and growing oudet for higher olefins. Both basestocks and lube additives are produced from higher olefins by a variety of processes (see Lubrication and lubricants). [Pg.442]

Lubricants. Lubricants are used to improve the melt flow, screw feeding, and mold release of nylons. Long-chain acids, esters, and amides are used together with metal salts, eg, metal stearates. Improved melt flow is mainly a function of molecular weight reduction during mol ding. Mold release is improved by waxes of limited compatibiHty with nylon, which migrate to and lubricate the mold surface. [Pg.274]

Lubricants. Lubricants (36,38) are added to lower frictional forces between particles, and between particles and die surfaces to improve compaction and minimize die wear. Typically <1 wt % of a lubricant is required for forming, and usually only with hard binders. Stearic and oleic acids are good lubricants for ceramics. [Pg.307]

Lubricants. Lubricants such as wax or calcium stearate reduce the viscosity of the molten plastic and improve forming characteristics. [Pg.3]

Steam-turbine lubricants Lubricants in steam turbines are not exposed to such arduous conditions as those in engines. The main requirement is for high oxidation stability. However, they may be exposed to aqueous condensate or, in the case of marine installations, to sea water contamination, so they have to be able to separate from water easily and to form a rustpreventing film on ferrous surfaces, and it is usual to employ rust inhibitors. The problem of tin oxide formation on white-metal bearings is associated with the presence of electrically conducting water in lubricants and can be over-come by keeping the lubricant dry . [Pg.452]

Insoluble Lubricants. Lubricants act by interposing an intermediate layer between the tablet constituents and the die wall. The smaller the amount of stress needed to shear the material, the better its lubricant properties will be. Since they are primarily required to act at the tooling/material interface, lubricants should be incorporated in the final mixing step after all granulation and... [Pg.306]
