Low-Voltage Distribution System

A solar photovoltaic (PV) system is a collection of PV cells known as a PV string, that forms a PV array and collectively are called a PV generator which turns sunlight directly into electricity. PV systems may be stand-alone power supplies or be designed to operate in parallel with the public low-voltage distribution network, that is, the a.c. mains supply. [Pg.169]

Power Supplies and Controls. Induction heating furnace loads rarely can be connected directiy to the user s electric power distribution system. If the load is to operate at the supply frequency, a transformer is used to provide the proper load voltage as weU as isolation from the supply system. Adjustment of the load voltage can be achieved by means of a tapped transformer or by use of a solid-state switch. The low power factor of an induction load can be corrected by installing a capacitor bank in the primary or secondary circuit. [Pg.127]

A low tan S will mean a high degree of resin cure. Most insulation systems are composites of many materials. In practice, they almost always contain small voids. Consider a coil side with a single void. The voltage distribution across the insulation will be non-uniform, due to different permittivities of air and insulation. When a low voltage is applied, a proportion of this will appear across the... [Pg.227]

The element of p.f. mainly affects the secondary distribution system which serves industries, agriculture, public utilities and domestic loads. Most of them are highly inductive and result in lowering the system p.f. These loads are largely responsible for most of the distribution losses and voltage fluctuations at the consumer end. In developing countries it is estimated that useful power is lost mainly due to transmission and distribution losses. In India, for instance, it is estimated to result in a loss of about 18-20% of the total useful povver, most of which occurs at the secondary distribution attributable to low p.f.s. [Pg.727]

Power-Factor Correction. The induction motors used for oil-well pumping have high starting torques with relatively low power factors. Also, the average load on these motors is fairly low. Therefore, it is advisable to consider the installation of capacitors to avoid paying the penalty imposed by most power companies for low-power factor. They will be installed at the individual motors and switched with them, if voltage drop in the distribution system is to be corrected as well as power factor. Otherwise they may be installed in large banks at the distribution center, if it is more economical to do so. [Pg.416]

A practical electrode system must meet a variety of performance, compatibility, and physical requirements. When possible, the electrode system should provide for maximum drug delivery efficiency (i.e., the rate of drug delivered per unit current), operate at low voltage (i.e., <1V), have adequate longevity (e.g., 24 h), and distribute the current evenly over the entire area of skin surface (e.g., 10 cm ). The electrode will provide maximum drug delivery efficiency if it does not contain... [Pg.2121]
