There are as many ways of classifying liquid-level sensors as there are developers who have described them. A convenient way to classify such devices is according to whether the output is discrete (point sensors) or continuous. [Pg.191]

The pressure and liquid level in the chlorine vaporizer are controlled automatically. As vapor flows out the top. the pressure in the tank begins to decrease. A pressure sensor detects the drop and sends a signal to the steam flow control valve. The valve opens and feeds more steam to the coil, causing more liquid chlorine to evaporate and raising the pressure back to the desired value. As the liquid evaporates, the liquid level in the tank begins to drop. A liquid level sensor detects the drop and sends a signal to the liquid chlorine flow control valve. Liquid level measurement may be accomphshed in several ways. The classical way is the use of a liquid level sensor, either based on conductivity or on electrical capacity. They can be supplied by all fermenter companies. Both are affected by foam. [Pg.287]

This chapter presented a concept drawing of a distillation process that included flow rate sensors, liquid level sensors, temperature sensors, and process control valves. All tests were remotely controlled from a control room located approximately 800 m away from the test cell. All pressure, temperature, and flow data was recorded using a computer DAQ. All liquid level sensors require a sharp property gradient at the liquid-vapor interface, a sharp change in density, for example. This may not always be the case if the fluid is stored near its critical point, or if stratification has built up after prolonged storage. Nevertheless, point level sensors are tuned to detect a sharp property difference and give an on-off signal. Several of the more commonly used types are described below. [Pg.510]

It is possible to determine the liquid level within a very small range, and, as expected, the smaller devices usually tend to show the smallest precision.
