Lipotropic hormone

Lipostabil Lipoteichoic acid b-lipotropic hormone b-Lipotropin [12584-99-5] Lipoadase Lipoadases 5-lipoxygenase Lipoxygenase... [Pg.570]

Several of the small physiologically active peptides now are known to be derived from a single protein precursor synthesized by the pituitary gland (43). As shown in Figure 9, ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone), /3-LPH ( -lipotropic hormone), /3-MSH ( -melanocyte-stimulating hormone), /3-endorphin, and enkephalin result from the specific proteolytic cleavage of a precursor protein of approximately 8,000 daltons. [Pg.79]

P-lipotropic hormone lipotropin. lipotropin ( 5-lipotropic hormone LPH) is a linear peptide with 90 amino acid residues, p-lipotropin itself contains the sequences of y-lipotropin (a less potent lipotropic hormone), P-melanotropin (P-MSH), [Met ] enkephalin and P-endorphin. It is an anterior pituitary hormone derived from propiomelanocortin, and has endocrine functions. P-lipotropin stimulates the release of fatty acids from adipose tissue. There is a high degree of sequence homology... [Pg.166]

Simultaneous adrenocorticotropin hormone and fragments, endorphins, lipotropic hormone and fragments, melanotropin, menotropins, prolactin... [Pg.1254]

Lipotropin, lipotropic hormone, LPH, a polypeptide hormone from the hypophysis stimulating the mobilization of lipids from lipid depots. fi-LPH (91 aa Mr 10 kDa) is biosyntheticaUy formed from the precursor proopiomelanocortin (PMOC). S-LPH is released from PMOC in the anterior and intermediate lobes of the pituitary gland, whereas in the intermediate lobe only fi-LPH is split to y-LPH (corresponds to fi-LPH 1-58) and -endorphin [A. F. Bradbury et al., Biochem. Biophys. Res. Commun. 1976, 69,950 J. Bogard et al.,/. Biol. Chem. 1995, 270, 23038]. [Pg.206]

Llpotropin, lipotropic hormone, adlpokinetic hormone, LPH a polypeptide hormone from the hypophysis, that stimulates mobilization of lipids, especially fatty adds, from lipid depots. P-LPH contains 91 amino add residues, M, 9,894 (porcine). y-LPH contains 58 amino add residues, identical in sequence to residues 1-58 of P-LPH. Corticotropin, melanotropin, ACTH and LPH are all derived from a common precursor (see Peptides) they contain an identical hepta-peplide in their structures, and they are grouped together to form the ACTH family of peptide hormones. [J.Bogard etal. / Biol. Chem. 270 (1995) 23038-23043]... [Pg.366]

Llpotroplc Hormone. LPH - The involvement of pituitary hormones in releasing free fatty acids from adipose tissue (lipolysis) has been discussed at a symposiuml39. The amino acid sequence (58 amino acids) of porcine a-lipotropic hormone (or-LPH) is closely homologous to that previously reported for ovine y-LPH. The porcine y-LPH sequence appears to be identical to the N-terminal 1-58 sequence of porcine p-LPH in a relationship similar to that previously observed for p- and a-LPH of bovine origin. Also, as has been the case with the ovine hormone, the C-terminal sequence of porcine y-LPH is identical to the entire 18 amino acid sequence of p-MSH from the same species. Partial characterization of human lipotropins was described. ... [Pg.201]
