Lipids reduction

For lipid reduction, garlic is used at 600 to 900 mg daily, usually divided into three doses, or 4 g fresh garlic or 8 ml of garlic oil daily. 

The aim is to extract protein molecules as pure as possible. Detergents generally help membrane proteins to dissolve and separate from lipids. Reductants are used to reduce disulfide bonds or prevent oxidation. Denaturing agents alter ionic strength...

In the face of these latest investigations, it appears that the beneficial effects of garlic on CVD may be attributable to its ability to delay or reduce the loss of elasticity in arterial vessels and the rise in atherosclerotic plaques, rather than its previously reported effects on blood lipid reduction.

Therefore it seems that ciclosporin can greatly raise ezetimibe levels, possibly resulting in an increased effect on lipid reduction, and that ciclosporin levels can be raised, possibly significantly in some patients, by ezetimibe. If concurrent use is necessary, until the effects of concurrent treatment are better established, it would seem prudent to monitor both ciclosporin levels and the effects on lipid levels, anticipating the need to reduce the dosage of either drug. The hypolipidemic effect of Girosital was again studied by giving a capsule once daily for 20 days in 35 patients with hyperlipoproteinemia. In type Ila hyperlipoproteinemia cases, the total lipids were reduced by 23.91% and total cholesterol by 10.64%. For type Ilb patients, the total lipid reduction was 15.93%, triglycerides fell by 25.45%, and cholesterol by 14.06% in type IV cases, the reductions were 33.83%, 25.33%, and 36%, respectively. Girosital was more effective in comparison to treatment with bezalip and do brate (Stankusheva, 1988).

Eritadenine is approximately ten times as potent as clofibrate in rats. Dietary hypercholesterolemia was suppressed by eritadenine but limited effects on Triton-induced hyperlipidemia were observed. The oral route of administration appears to produce superior lipid reductions and the drug causes a limited but significant enhancement in the rate of removal of cholesterol from the plasma compartment.65... 

This drug has been studied for lipid reduction in 30 patients over a period of 30 and 60 days (28 ). Although the impression was gained that adverse reactions were much less pronounced in the initial phases of treatment than with nicotinic acid, this is a case where conclusions must be reserved until adequate clinical work has determined the equipotent clinical dose.
