The properties required by jet engines are linked to the combustion process particular to aviation engines. They must have an excellent cold behavior down to -50°C, a chemical composition which results in a low radiation flame that avoids carbon deposition on the walls, a low level of contaminants such as sediment, water and gums, in order to avoid problems during the airport storage and handling phase. [Pg.178]

The properties linked to storage and distribution do not directly affect the performance of engines and burners, but they are important in avoiding upstream incidents that could sometimes be very serious. We will examine in turn the problems specific to gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel and heavy fuel. [Pg.242]

Safety standards govern the manipulation and storage of crude oil and petroleum products with regard to their flash points which are directly linked to vapor pressure. [Pg.319]

Logistics refers to the organisation of transport of people, and supply and storage of materials. The transport of people is linked to the mode of manning the operation, and is clearly much simplified for an unmanned operation. [Pg.285]

Rocket Propellants. SoHd rocket propellants are mostly based on chemically cross-linked polymeric elastomers to provide the mechanical properties required in launchings and the environmental conditions experienced in storage, shipment, and handling (see Elastomers, synthetic). Double-and triple-based nitrocellulose propellants are also employed as rocket propellants. [Pg.32]

A most important element in computer technology is data storage. Progress in microelectronics, therefore, is directly linked to progress in data storage, that is the abihty to store large amounts of information in the smallest possible space, irreversibly or preferably reversibly. [Pg.138]

Table 10 compares the values of different experimental uv-curable cross-linked polymers with those of BPA-PC for the most important properties of substrate materials (220). In spite of this remarkable progress in the development of fast curing cross-linked polymers, BPA-PC and, to a small extent, glass are still the materials of choice for substrates for optical data storage. [Pg.162]

Other Polymers. Besides polycarbonates, poly(methyl methacrylate)s, cycfic polyolefins, and uv-curable cross-linked polymers, a host of other polymers have been examined for their suitabiUty as substrate materials for optical data storage, preferably compact disks, in the last years. These polymers have not gained commercial importance polystyrene (PS), poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), cellulose acetobutyrate (CAB), bis(diallylpolycarbonate) (BDPC), poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), styrene—acrylonitrile copolymers (SAN), poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAC), and for substrates with high resistance to heat softening, polysulfones (PSU) and polyimides (PI). [Pg.162]

For ink vehicles based on hydroxyl group containing binders such as nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate, the tetraalkyl titanates cross-link the binder prematurely, limiting the storage stabiUty of the printing ink. Chelated organic titanates such as TYZOR AA and TYZOR TE are preferred for use in these cases because they only initiate cross-linking when the ink is heated to temperatures above 80°C (503). [Pg.163]

Thus, while models may suggest optimal pore spuctures to maximize methane storage, they give no indication or suggestion as to how such a material might be produced. On the other hand, simple measurement of methane uptake from variously prepared adsorbents is not sufficient to elucidate the difference in the pore structure of adsorbents. Sosin and Quinn s method of determining a PSD directly from the supercritical methane isotherm provides an important and valuable link between theoretical models and the practical production of carbon adsorbents... [Pg.284]
