The method for solids transported in slurry form is called hydraulic transportation. Today there are long distance rubber lined pipelines carrying a variety of minerals such as coal, limestone, rock phosphate, copper concentrate, nickel refinery tailings, iron ore concentrates and tailings in various parts of the world. The most important slurry pipelines in operation around the world are given in Table 4.2. 

The possible application of cement mortars containing GRT as a flexible interface material was investigated (Nehdi and Khan, 2004). The effects of the water/cement ratio, GRT content, and particle size on the mechanical properties in uniaxial and triaxial compression of the mortars were studied. It was suggested that cement mortars containing GRT particles have a superior ductility to satisfy the requirement for deformations occurring around tunnel linings, pipelines, and other buried infrastructure. 

MS-PTFE lined pipelines can be used (as optional) for acid for maintenance free service as compared to C.l. pipelines in conventional sulfuric acid plant design.

The degree of curing to which natural rubber is subjected will determine whether it is classified as soft, semihard, or hard. Soft rubber is the form primarily used as a lining material although some hard rubber linings are produced. Natural rubber is also used for lining pipelines. 

A variety of materials are available for the lining and manufacture of slurry handling equipment and piping. Various selections are available based on the degree of abrasiveness, corrosion, temperature, and presence of oils or solvents. In terms of measurement of wear, the American Society for Testing of Materials has developed a slurry abrasion response (SAR) number, also called Miller number. It is extremely useful for determining the need to line pipelines and pumps.

Corrosion inhibitors are chemicals that may be divided into a few categories. Among these, the most used class in horizontal flow lines/pipelines is the fihn-forming amine type.
