Liner design conditions

It is of interest to predict the developed strength in the concrete liner that is unprotected and exposed to the freezing condition. This paper presents a technique to relate a concrete maturity curve to the temperature profile and age of the concrete in order to predict concrete liner strength development. By using this technique, a structural designer will have a more accurate value for the concrete liner to be used for optimized liner design. [Pg.536]

A triangular shaped wheel cover with the center cut out to provide hub access was then applied to a wheel. The cover was constructed from a heat shrinkable poly- 10 olefin ftlm. Tape was attached to the apex points of the triangle. The tape liner was removed and the three adhesive sites were fastened to the spokes. As an identical complementary cover was then applied to the opposite face of the wheel in a mirror image fashion. The 1 adhesive contact points were positioned to encapsulate the spoke on either side within the adhesive contact point. Heat was then used to shrink the covers and achieve a wrinkle-free condition. This example demonstrates that design can play a part in providing a stylish wheel cover that is capable of individualizing the bicycle to meet a wide variety of consumer tastes. [Pg.29]

U.S. EPA s Method 909040 can be used to evaluate all geosynthetic materials used in liner and LCRSs currently being designed. Method 9090 is used to predict the effects of leachate under field conditions and has been verified with limited field data. The test is performed by immersing a geosynthetic in a chemical environment for 120 days at two different temperatures room and elevated temperature. Every 30 days, samples are removed and evaluated for changes in physical properties. Tests performed on FMLs are listed in Table 26.7. The design of the stack was inadequate for the service especially since the scrubbing process introduced solid material into the stack. A good structural or mechanical design does not necessarily ensure suitability for process conditions. Nitrile rubber (NBR) is widely used in compounds designed for seals and gaskets, and in hoses for both aqueous and fatty foods. Nitrile mbber is better able to withstand heat ageing than natural rubber and so the maximum continuous use temperature is higher at 120 °C. Techniques to deal with the cracks, instability and other problems caused by this dry condition have been developed in recent years by wood tank manufacturers. One procedure is the application of marine grade plywood sheets, with adequate nailing, to the entire inside surface of the wood tank. Design drain systems for the lining and annulus to account for pressure conditions-For example, a common drain system servicing both the annulus and liner would not be advisable unless traps or other pressure stops were installed.
