Limited service

Defect. A defect is an imperfection in a component, resulting from the way it was manufactured, shipped, handled, or installed, that may contribute materially to failure or limited serviceability. Failures resulting directly or indirectly from defects account for less than 1% of all failures.

Materials With Limited Service. The desirability of specifying some degree of production impact testing, in addition to the weld procedure qualification tests, when using materials with limited low-temperature service experience below the minimum temperature stated in Table IX-2. 

The production of volatile products upon irradiation can result in the undesirable formation of bubbles. This can lead to the premature failure of stressed components, thus limiting service life. The yield of volatile products after irradiation has been demonstrated to be a sensitive probe of the relative radiation resistance for model compounds such as cyclohexane and benzene, with G(H2) 5.6 (3) and 0.038 (4), respectively. 

Anisotropic powders of ferrites have excellent cost/performance ratio, limited service temperatures, and low electrical resistance. 

Protection of thiols. The r-butyl group has been of limited service for protection of thiols because removal has involved rather drastic treatment with liquid HF. r-Butyl thioethers can be cleaved by treatment with o-nitrobenzene-sulfenyl chloride in acetic acid at 25° to give S-o-nitrophenylsulfeny derivatives. These products are reduced to thiols with NaBH4, HSCH2C02H, or HOCH2CH2SH. 

Three basic problems may cause a total joint replacement to fail or to have a limited service life. Conventional coating approaches to TPO, which rely on the use of substrate pretreatments such as flaming, corona discharge, plasma or chemical pre-treatment, have led to a substantial oxidation of the surface, which enhances adhesion. The second column describes a smaller laboratory that can process up to 125 samples per month. Although some laboratories start by offering limited services and then try to grow into a full-service facility, a minimum number of samples must be processed monthly to produce a revenue stream that will sustain operation. This minimum must be calculated for each type and quantity of sample, number and types of analytes requested, and facility overhead. 

If hardness is retained at a high level, weight gain has stabilized, and swelling has stabilized at the 12 month level, then the resin may do fairly well in limited service.
