Light colorfastness

Fastness to Light. The ISO test for colorfastness to light is DajlightlSO 105-B01. The textile specimen is exposed to daylight under prescribed conditions, including protection from rain, along with a series of blue wool reference samples that fade at defined, prescribed, different rates. 

The test for colorfastness to artificial light Kenon arcfading lamp test ISO 10S-B02, is identical to BOl except that the sample is exposed to xenon arc light under prescribed conditions in a closed container. 

Colorants must provide colorfastness under the required exposure conditions of light, temperature, humidity, chemical exposure, and so on, but without reducing other desirable properties such as flow during...

Colorfastness to Light. Specimens were exposed to continuous light provided by the carbon arc lamp of a Weatherometer for various periods of time, ranging from 30 min to 40 h. It was necessary to evaluate the color change at more frequent intervals than those suggested in the test method 16A-1977, because studies have indicated silks sometimes lose color within an hour of exposure (7). 

Colorfastness to Daylight. Colorfastness to daylight tests indicate how fabric would react to outdoor exposure in a glass cabinet. This method exposes the fabric not only to naturally produced lighting, but to air contaminants and to airborne particles, helping to test the combined effects of light, humidity, and atmospheric contaminants on the fabric color.

Yuen and Kan (2007) studied fasmess to light, washing, and crocking of the digital inkjet-printed cotton fabrics with plasma pretreatment. The results showed that colorfastness of inkjet-printed cotton fabric with plasma pretreatment was better than the untreated cotton fabric. Of the different plasma treatment exposure limes studied, better maximum colorfastness was achieved at 2 and 5 min of plasma exposure... 

Colorfastness n. Resistance to fading i.e., the property of a dye to retain its color when the dyed (or printed) textile material is exposed to conditions or agents such as light, perspiration, atmospheric gases, or washing that can remove or destroy the color. A dye may be reasonably fast to one agent and only moderately fast to another. Degree of fastness of color is tested by standard procedures. Textile materials often must meet certain fastness specifications for a particular use.
