This equation illustrates the components of a competitive protein binding assay system. That is, the reaction system contains both radioactive and non-radioactive free ligand (P and P) and both radioactive and non-radioactive protein bound ligand (P Q and PQ). This type of assay assumes that binding protein will have the same affinity for the labeled or non-labeled material that is being measured. Although this assumption is not always completely valid, it usually causes no problems of consequence with most radioassays or radioimmunoassays.

Related substitution patterns are observed in tetranuclear cobalt and rhodium clusters. Thus, the small ligand, P(OMe) (L), occupies axial sites in [Co,(CO)1 L ] (x = 1,2) (17) whereas steric effects become important witfi (OPh) and the isomers shown in Fig. 2 are obtained with tetrarhodium derivatives.

In this reaction, a rhodium atom complexed to a chiral diphosphine ligand ( P—P ) catalyzes the hydrogenation of a prochiral enamide, with essentially complete enan-tioselectivity and limiting kinetic rates exceeding hundreds of catalyst turnovers per second. While precious metals such as Ru, Rh, and Ir are notably effective for catalysis of hydrogenation reactions, many other transition-metal and lanthanide complexes exhibit similar potency.
