Life decision matrix

Expressions such as cost/or cost/m /y, which is better, percent of maintenance costs, percent of capital costs, and so forth, are often used to describe the cost of coating systems in economical terms. However, all these expressions provide an incomplete comparison on which to base a business decision. The cost of coatings materials for a maintenance overhaul only range between 5 to 21 percent of the total costs, while surface preparation is constant at about 45 percent of the total. Additionally, the performance of protective coatings has to be included in the overall decision matrix. High-performance epoxy polyamide, urethane, or zinc-rich systems, for example, may represent savings of nearly 40 percent over "less expensive" systems when a service life greater than 10 years is considered. 

A decision matrix was used to create two single value metrics for each polymer, one evaluating each polymer for life cycle environmental impacts and the other evaluating each polymer for adherence to green design principles. Such decisions are always more or less arbitrary since in many routinely used LC-MS/MS instruments the normal variation of IS peak-areas between subsequent samples in a series can be substantial. Moreover, it is always uncertain if matrix effects in an individual sample might impact the target analyte but not at all the internal standard compound. This consideration underscores the importance of the appropriateness of internal standard compounds for reliable LC-MS/MS results. We believe, that matrix related modulation of ionization will remain an important issue in clinical LC-MS/MS and has to be approached with a multiple strategy spanning the whole life time of an assay ... 

And then there is finally - besides the artificial evolutions of selecting functional nucleic acids for specific interactions with cooperative mates, high-affinic recognitions, and catalytic activities fiom random pools - the evolution of an individual scientific life s work [50], which itself follows decisive stages of the grand process the exploration of early chemical requirements, the development of prebiotic ligand systems, the fixation into the ordered structures of informational inorganic matrix patterns... 

For most of the B and C items management has neither the funds nor the people to do them all at once. Each item develops its own life and trajectory. Realistically the ones selected are those that have the strongest support or champions. The necessary decisions as to which items will be acted upon will be made without consulting the matrix. 

Compliance issues should be prioritized on the basis of the perceived danger to life and property posed by each issue, if noncompliance is continued. A decision-making matrix may help you quantify or weigh the relative importance of each issue to your facility (see Fig. 7).
