The use of chlorine as a weapon is now considered obsolete, but occasionally it does reappear in modern conflicts. According to an unconfirmed report, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) used chlorine in a 1990 attack against Sri Lankan forces, but did not cause serious casualties. A report in 1997 claimed that Muslims in the Bosnian city of Tuzla, the site of a significant industrial chemical facility, produced 120-mm chlorine-filled mortar rounds in anticipation of conflict with Serbian-led forces.
