Li+ intercalation

Later electrochemical smdies on sputtered, amorphous MoOyS films showed that the Li intercalation process strongly depends on the composition of these films... [Pg.328]

When the electrolyte solutions are not too reactive, as in the case of ethereal solutions, there is no massive formation of protective surface films at potentials above Li intercalation potential, and most of the solvent reduction processes may occur at potentials lower than 0.3 V vs. Li/Li+. Hence, the passivation of the electrodes is not sufficient to prevent cointercalation of solvent molecules. This leads to an exfoliation of the graphite particles into amorphous dust (expholiated graphene planes). This scenario is demonstrated in Figure 2a as the reduction of the 002 diffraction peak21 of the graphite electrode, polarized cathodically in an ethereal solution. [Pg.217]

The mass losses for all samples are in a good agreement with values of water and hydroxide group content obtained by chemical analysis (Table 1). Thus, for electrochemical testing of Li- intercalation activity each sample was heated at 350°C to remove all types of bound water. [Pg.498]

Figure 29 shows analogous Li+ intercalation voltammograms for the thin-walled TiS2 tubular electrode and for a control electrode containing approximately the same amount of TiS2. As would be expected, the magni-... [Pg.64]

The microtubular electrode concept described here also offers another possible advantage. In these concentric tubular electrodes, each particle of the Li intercalation material (the outer tube) has its own current collector (the inner metal microtubule). This could be an important advantage for Li+ intercalation materials with low electrical conductivity. This advantage was not demonstrated here because TiS2 has relatively high electronic conductivity. We have recently shown that electrochemical synthesis can be used to coat the gold microtubular current collector with outer mbes of a... [Pg.68]

Li+ intercalation material (V. M. Cepak and C. R. Martin, unpublished). These results, which will be the subject of a future paper, show that other synthetic methodologies, in addition to CVD, can be used to make micro-structured battery electrodes like those described here. In addition, the underlying microtubular current collector does not have to be Au. Microtubules composed of graphite [35] or other metals [1,3] (e.g., Ni) could be used. Finally, for the advantages noted above to be realized in practical cells, large-scale template-fabrication methods would have to be developed. [Pg.69]
