Level measurement sensor, capacitive

A common method of level measurement is to use a capacitance bridge. A typical arrangement is shown in Fig. 6.31a in which the sensor consists of two concentric metal cylinders. In the case of a circular tank, the wall of the tank can be employed as the outer cylinder of the sensor. The capacitance of the sensor is ... [Pg.481]

Different feedstocks and/or solvents require different solvent to feed ratios. Each packing has a specific flooding point These two effects can lead to a great difference in mass flow. Because of this, pressures and temperatures should be controlled automatically. The flow must be measured exactly, preferably with a mass flow meter, but automatic flow control is not suitable for a multi-purpose plant The valves which are used for pressure and temperature control should be installed so that they can be replaced easily or adapted to new conditions. A very important requirement for the continuous operation of the plant is liquid level indication and control in the extractor and regenerator. Therefore the plant is equipped with capacitive level sensors which are part of a control circuit. The suitability of these sensors for measuring the level of oily products, vitamins and some type of hydrocarbons in supercritical systems have been tested in the lab previously. [Pg.509]

In addition to reaction chambers and delivery systems, a number of supervising and sensor systems are of utmost importance for control and safety reasons. Sensors in automated workstations include measurement of temperature (thermocouple, thermistor, semiconductor), pressure, liquid flow and gas or liquid level. To monitor the presence or absence of vessels or devices, systems like capacitance, inductivity, ultrasonic monitors, magnetic sensors or optical sensors (reflective, beam interruption, color) can be integrated in automated workstations. [Pg.547]

This approach is dedicated to the measurement of hquid viscosity by determining the real part of the sensor admittance at series resonance frequency. According to this concept, one terminal of the sensor is fed with the (constant-level) output of a VCO. The resonator current I is measured by connecting a transimpedance amphfier at the second terminal. Due to the low input impedance of the transimpedance amphfier, the entire VCO output voltage is apphed to the sensor. Parasitic capacitances from the sensor terminals to ground (e.g., due the shielding of the connection cables) are on one side... [Pg.40]

Such sensors are used to measure the pressure of a process or the pressure difference which is employed to compute a liquid level or a flow rate (orifice plate, venturi tube). The variable capacitance differential pressure transducer has become very popular. Figure 11A.2 shows a schematic of such a device. Pressure differences cause small displacements of the sensing diaphragm. The position of the sensing diaphragm... [Pg.135]

In particular, Connolly et al. (2005) designed NH capacitive sensor with 500-nm-thick porous SiC film. The response in humidity was very low for RH<50 %, which was attributed to the porous dimensions. The exact sensing mechanism is still not clear, but NH levels as low as-0.5 ppm were detected. Porous alumina (AI2O3) has also been examined as a sensing material for capacitive gas sensors and in particular for humidity measurements (Nahar and Khanna 1982 Timar-Horvath et al. 2008). The Al Og-based humidity sensor was a volume-effect device based on physical adsorption. At low humidity, the walls of the pores are lined with one-molecular-thickness liquid layer. As the humidity increases, after saturating the walls, due to a capillary condensation effect, the water starts condensing in the pores (Boucher 1976 Neimark and Ravikovitch 2001). It was established that the water molecules, even at a partial pressure higher than the saturated vapor pressure tend to condense in capillary pores with a radius below the Kelvin radius r, which is defined as function (1) (Boucher 1976) ... [Pg.370]
