Leos-Martinez, J., Granovsky, T.A., Williams, H.J., Vinson, S.B., and Burkholder, W.E. 1986. Estimation of aerial density of the lesser grain borer (Coleoptera Bostrichidae) in a warehouse using Dominicalure traps. J. Econ. Entomol. 79, 1134-1138. [Pg.289]

Attractive Compounds. Pheromones of three Bostrychid species have been identified. Males of the lesser grain borer, Rhizopertha dominica, produce (S)-l-methylbutyl (E)-2-methyl-2-pentenoate (dominicalure 1) 112 and (S)-l-methyl-butyl (E)-2,4-dimethyl-2-pentenoate (dominicalure 2) 113 (Scheme 13). Both compounds induce aggregation of males and females however, the mixture does not show synergistic effects [226]. Pheromone release and inter-male variation as well as effects of different hosts and the presence of conspecific females on pheromone production by males of Rhizopertha have been recently investigated [227,228]. [Pg.131]

Acetyl derivatives of the BayUs-Hillman adducts on treatment with Zn in saturated aq. NH4CI solution under reflux has also been utilized as a method for the preparation of chiral insect ph eromones dominicalure 1 and dominicalure 11 of the lesser grain borer Rhyz pertha dominica. [Pg.314]

Cuticular hydrocarbons of winged and wingless morphs of the ectoparasitoid Choetospila elegans Westwood (Hymenoptera Pteromalidae) and its host, larval lesser grain borer (Rhyzopertha dominica) (Coleoptera Bostrichidae). Further tests in the laboratory showed that 24,055 was effective when applied to surfaces other than growing plants. Wool impregnated with the compound was not attacked by the larvae of the black carpet beetle, and lesser grain borers would not penetrate treated paper bags containing grain. [Pg.58]

Exposure under vacuum reduces exposure times for complete kill of the lesser grain borer Rhyzopertha dominica at about 20°C from several weeks to a few days (Jay, 1986 Locatelli and Daolio, 1993), while exposure at raised pressures of 10 and 15 bar achieved complete kill of all stages of the granary weevil Sitophilus granarius (L.) within 16h and 8 h respectively at this temperature (Le Torc h and Fleurat Lessard, 1991). At 20bar and 20°C, control of a variety of stored-product... [Pg.191]

Evaluation of spinosyns as a protectant for stored grains has also been reviewed [11]. Excellent control of Lesser grain borer Rhyzopertha dominica (E.)
