Leak detection portable detectors

If your plant contains flammable or combustible materials, you should have written emergency procedures fora leak. Review and understand these procedures, participate in drills, and know what you must do to protect yourself and others in case cf a leak. Know when and how to use appropriate personal protective equipment (for example, flame resistant clothing) and leak detection equipment such as portable flammable material detectors. [Pg.146]

Portable fire extinguishers (carbon dioxide or chemical types), or other fire protection or suppression systems or devices must be available for fire emergencies at storage installations. Only trained personnel should be allowed to operate fire extinguishers. A flame-producing device must never be used for detection of flammable gas leaks. Either a flammable gas detector or compatible leak detection solution should be used. [Pg.27]

As in the case of any flammable gas, never use a flame in trying to detect carbon monoxide leaks. Portable detection equipment or the formation of bubbles by a soapy solution applied to a suspected area will indicate leaks. Carbon monoxide alarm detectors must be installed in all indoor areas in which the gas is regularly used in more than small laboratory amounts. Colorimetric sniffer tubes are also utilized for detection of carbon monoxide. Samples of atmospheric air containing carbon monoxide are aspirated through such tubes. [Pg.315]
