As with the polysulphones, the deactivated aromatic nature of the polymer leads to a high degree of oxidative stability, with an indicated UL Temperature Index in excess of 250°C for PEEKK. The only other melt-processable polymers in the same league are poly(phenylene sulphides) and certain liquid crystal polyesters (see Chapter 25). 

Whilst initial development was primarily in the fields of fibres and rubbers, the presence of polyurethanes at about sixth position in the production league tables is largely due to the widespread use of foam materials. By 1980 global consumption was of the order of 3 X 10 tonnes per annum. 

Another approach to public perception of risk is to simply ask the public. This was the approach of Fischoff ct al., 1977 in which a survey of the League of Women Voters in Eugene, Oregon was taken. Later studies covered 40 college students at the University of Oregon, 25 Eugene businessmen and 15 national experts in risk analysis. 

For the separate determination of the four principal components in the total alkaloids, the method in general use is based on the isolation of quinine and cinchonidine as d-tartrates, of cinchonine as the base in virtue of its sparing solubility in ether, and of quinidine as the hydriodide. Types of this method have been described by Chick, and special modifications designed for use in the analysis of totaquina are given in the British Pharmacopoeia 1932 and in a special report by the Malaria Commission of the League of Nations.
