Layer low-temperature

Another approach is to use the LB film as a template to limit the size of growing colloids such as the Q-state semiconductors that have applications in nonlinear optical devices. Furlong and co-workers have successfully synthesized CdSe [186] and CdS [187] nanoparticles (<5 nm in radius) in Cd arachidate LB films. Finally, as a low-temperature ceramic process, LB films can be converted to oxide layers by UV and ozone treatment examples are polydimethylsiloxane films to make SiO [188] and Cd arachidate to make CdOjt [189]. [Pg.562]

The reduction takes place at a comparatively low temperature and is fairiy rapid for acetophenone. With higher ketones, the upper layer of the initial distillate should be returned to the contents of the flask and the refluxing continued for 3-6 hours. The reaction mixture and aqueous distillate are then combined, extracted with ether, etc. [Pg.516]

The HCl by-product of the amidation reaction is neutralized by also dissolving an inorganic base in the aqueous layer in interfacial polymerization. The choice of the organic solvent plays a role in determining the properties of the polymer produced, probably because of differences in solvent goodness for the resulting polymer. Since this reaction is carried out at low temperatures, the complications associated with side reactions can be kept to a minimum. [Pg.307]

Some cast (unoriented) polypropylene film is produced. Its clarity and heat sealabiUty make it ideal for textile packaging and overwrap. The use of copolymers with ethylene improves low temperature impact, which is the primary problem with unoriented PP film. Orientation improves the clarity and stiffness of polypropylene film, and dramatically increases low temperature impact strength. BOPP film, however, is not readily heat-sealed and so is coextmded or coated with resins with lower melting points than the polypropylene shrinkage temperature. These layers may also provide improved barrier properties. [Pg.378]

Because of Hquid helium s uniquely low temperature and small heat of vaporization, containers for its storage and transportation must be exceedingly weU insulated. Some containers are insulated with only a fairly thick layer of very efficient insulation, but containers with the least heat leak use an inexpensive sacrificial cryogenic Hquid, usually Hquid nitrogen, to shield thermally the Hquid helium contents. [Pg.12]

Polysilicon. Polysihcon is used as the gate electrode material in MOS devices, as a conducting material for multilevel metallization, and as contact material for devices having shallow junctions. It is prepared by pyrolyzing silane, SiH, at 575—650°C in a low pressure reactor. The temperature of the process affects the properties of the final film. Higher process temperatures increase the deposition rate, but degrade the uniformity of the layer. Lower temperatures may improve the uniformity, but reduce the throughput to an impractical level. [Pg.348]

At low temperature, nonionic surfactants are water-soluble but at high temperatures the surfactant s solubUity in water is extremely smaU. At some intermediate temperature, the hydrophile—Hpophile balance (HLB) temperature (24) or the phase inversion temperature (PIT) (22), a third isotropic Hquid phase (25), appears between the oil and the water (Fig. 11). The emulsification is done at this temperature and the emulsifier is selected in the foUowing manner. Equal amounts of the oil and the aqueous phases with aU the components of the formulation pre-added are mixed with 4% of the emulsifiers to be tested in a series of samples. For the case of an o/w emulsion, the samples are left thermostated at 55°C to separate. The emulsifiers giving separation into three layers are then used for emulsification in order to find which one gives the most stable emulsion. [Pg.201]

These can be converted to their uranyl nitrate addition compounds. The crude or partially purified ester is saturated with uranyl nitrate solution and the adduct filtered off. It is recrystallised from -hexane, toluene or ethanol. For the more soluble members crystallisation from hexane using low temperatures (-40°) has been successful. The adduct is decomposed by shaking with sodium carbonate solution and water, the solvent is steam distilled (if hexane or toluene is used) and the ester is collected by filtration. Alternatively, after decomposition, the organic layer is separated, dried with CaCl or BaO, filtered, and fractionally distilled under high vacuum. [Pg.60]

Low-temperature eorrosion eharaeteristieally shows no denuded zone, no intergranular attaek, and a layered type of eorrosion seale. [Pg.420]
