The 1-h no-observed-effect level (NOEL) of 5 ppm represented a no-effect exposure level for mice, and 11 ppm represented a lowest-observed-adverse-effect level (LOAEL) based upon altered hematologic parameters in mice that were reversible at 5 d post-exposure. At 15 ppm, the effects on hematocrit levels, packed cell volume, and RBC count were more severe but were approaching reversibility at 11 d. The use of what might appear to be a conservative NOEL in the derivation of AEGL-2 is justified by the documented latency in the expression of severe toxicity in humans even after removal from exposure...

Adult, male Sprague-Dawley rats were assessed for analgesic activity using the rat paw-hot plate assay. The latency hot plate paw withdrawal was measured by a Hot Plate Analgesia Meter. The temperature of the hot plate was set and calibrated at 52°C and the rats were removed from the heat stimulus by 36 seconds after placement. 

After refining the pulps go to latency tanks (2-4% consistency at about 80°C) where they are held and slightly agitated for several minutes. This improves pulp properties by slowly relieving internal stresses and removing the curled conformation of the fibres that resulted from lignin stiffening, when the pulp left the refiner. 

These small epidermal inclusion cysts " are a relatively common and fortunately benign complication of medium or deep peels, and occur mainly when the peels have been followed by greasy occlusion or occlusive make-up. They can vary in number from a single cyst to several hundred, and usually appear in the midface region or on the cheeks. A latency period of several weeks (3-6) is necessary before they become visible, and it takes 6-12 weeks of patience for them to disappear, unless patients run out of patience and remove them themselves or ask the doctor to do it. 

With the stacked DRAM, the off-chip delay can be almost completely removed since no off-chip wires and I/O pads are necessary. Of course, it still too early to use an exact latency value for the stacked DRAM at the present due to the inviolability of technology parameters. Assuming a 400-cycle off-chip memory latency, we set the upper bound latency (pessimistic estimation) of stacked DRAM is 300 cycles, while a lower bound latency (optimistic estimation) is 200 cycles. 

Microsomal Incubation Conditions Incubations in animal or human liver microsomes are the most common way to determine activity in the presence of added substrate, UDPGA, Mg, and a buffer. As there is no method available to directly determine enzyme concentration, the incubations are standardized by addition of the same amount of protein (typically 0.25-1.0 mg protein/ImL) after determination of linearity of product formation with respect to protein concentration and time. In general, the enzyme is stable up to 45 min to 1 h. Because of the location of the enzyme, a portion of the microsomal vesicle will be obtained in the normal configuration with the enzyme active site entrapped within the vesicle. Since UDPGA must have access to the active site, and the UDPGA influx transporter is not operative without ATP, it may be necessary to activate or remove latency of the enzyme. In the past this has been achieved by a variety of methods, but most commonly by addition of detergents such as Brij 58, Lubrol, or Triton X... 

The time taken to locate the escape platform (escape latency) and the distance traveled are determined. Once the animal locates the platform, it is allowed to stay there for 30 s before removal from the pool.
