Land, environmental protection assessment

The most exposed individual (MEI) of the population is also identified. Based on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency exposure assessment for land-applied contaminants in sewage sludge. [Pg.35]

Not only do these state agencies implement and enforce federal laws, but they also have their own sets of state laws to administer. These state laws often add additional levels of environmental protection and requirements. Also, several states have their own versions of the federal NEPA law, requiring environmental assessments and reviews at the state level and extending those reviews beyond federal lands to state and private lands. [Pg.175]

The Environmental Protection Agency employs more than 18,000 people across the United States. More than 50% of these individuals are engineers, chemists, or scientists. The President of the United States appoints the administrator of the EPA and carefuiiy monitors aii major activities. Established in 1970 to protect human health and the American environment, the EPA works for cleaner water, air, and land. This is accomplished as the EPA heads up the country s environmental research, science, assessment, and educational process. [Pg.36]

To characterize the potential for human exposure and environmental release, the PMN submitter must describe occupational exposure, including the estimated number of workers exposed to the substance, the activities during which they would be exposed, and any protective equipment or engineering controls that would reduce exposure. Estimates of environmental release and exposme must include estimates of releases to air, surface water, land, incineration, or other media. The PMN form also requests optional pollution prevention information. The submitter may provide information on how the proposed manufacturing process or use of the new chemical substance contributes to source reduction, recycling achvities, and safer products or processes. The US EPA takes this informahon into account when assessing potential risks. [Pg.63]
