Lake topography

A site survey will be carried out, from which a number of parameters can be established, e.g. carrying capacity of the soil at the planned location, possible access routes, surface restrictions like built-up areas, lakes, nature reserves, the general topography, possible water supplies. The survey will allow the adequate preparation of the future location. For instance, onshore in a swamp area the soil needs to be covered with support mats. [Pg.42]

Since this technique was first used by Wabl (1973) for studies of ribosomes, it has been used extensively by Stbffler et al (1980) and Lake (1980) as a powerful tool by which to delineate the external topography of ribosomal subunits. Initially both groups made comprehensive preliminary studies to define the loci of many ribosomal proteins on Iwth subunits (Tischendorf et al, 1974, 1975 Lake 1976, 1978). However, difficulties with antibody purity and specificity as well as differences in the models proposed for the ribosomal subunits caused a considerable discrepancy between the two groups. The results were reexamined, and... [Pg.32]

The concentrations of contaminants in the atmosphere and their dispersion in the air can be influenced by topography, i.e., whether the location of the polluting source is in a valley, plateau or mountain, or near a lake or the sea. For example, mountains can act as barriers to air flow while valleys will cause persistence in wind direction. [Pg.100]

The Black Sea basin, which now is connected with the Sea of Azov and the Mediterranean Sea and was in the geological past also connected to the Caspian Sea, underwent a complicated history of geological evolution. The latest stage of the post-glacial epoch was especially important for the processes of formation of the topography and of the sedimentation. During the past 20 000 years, the Black Sea basin has evolved from a desalinated lake with a level located about 100 m below the present-day marks to to a sea basin within its modern boundaries. [Pg.47]

The slope of the water table is defined by three major factors the base of the drainage system (sea, lake, river), the topography of the land surface, and the occurrence of impermeable rock beds. [Pg.16]

Certain areas of the environment are extremely sensitive to certain chemicals, or may present enormous cleanup problems. Wetlands, and rivers and lakes that serve as water supplies, are areas of the environment that are highly sensitive to chemical contamination. The problems created by these environmental features may be exacerbated by topography and soil conditions which speeds the spread of chemical contamination. [Pg.57]

Strata may be spatial, temporal, or determined by other relevant criteria. For example, in the spatial sense, a series of strata could comprise discrete areas associated with a study location, each with different geology, or different topography, or different history of contamination, or different soils (or aquatic sediments), or waters sampled at different depths within a lake to take account of stratification or, in an estuary, salinity gradient. See Ref. 5 for more detail of stratification issues in water sampling. In the temporal sense, different strata could comprise different seasons, or portions of the diurnal cycle, or time periods relative to a process such as an upstream effluent release. [Pg.7]

The construction of an ecological city at the south lake of Tangshan city can make good use of the characteristics of topography and turn the waste into the treasure. And then achieve the purpose of mine environmental treatment and development plan of building a hvable city. The effect of the treatment is noticeable. [Pg.337]
