Lack of control

Blends that contain no nylon can also be prepared by reactive compatibilization. However, interest in these systems has been limited somewhat by lack of control of the reaction pathways. Eor polyester-based systems, epoxide functionaHty appears to be an effective chemistry, involving reaction of the polyester chain ends (183,184). [Pg.415]

The next condition and physical evidence we ll mention is rare, but we need to cover it in ease you should ever see it. You might see scratch and gouge marks all around the cireumferenee of strict tolerance rotary element ODs, and stationary element bores alike. This condition and marks is evidence of a Lack of Control . It could be from any of the... [Pg.139]

The problem could be maintenance, operation, or design, or a combination of any or all these factors. In all honesty, you should never. see this set of evidence marks because it indicates a lack of control. Now because the mechanic cannot control operational problems or design problems, the first phase to correct this situation is to control the mechanical maintenance factors, like alignment, proper bolting and torque. sequences, be sure shafts are straight and round, and dynamically balance all rotary components. Reinstall the pump and wait for the next failure. Once the maintenance factors are under control, there should appear a clear vision and path to resolve any operational and/or design weaknesses. [Pg.140]

Radical polymerization is often the preferred mechanism for forming polymers and most commercial polymer materials involve radical chemistry at some stage of their production cycle. From both economic and practical viewpoints, the advantages of radical over other forms of polymerization arc many (Chapter 1). However, one of the often-cited "problems" with radical polymerization is a perceived lack of control over the process the inability to precisely control molecular weight and distribution, limited capacity to make complex architectures and the range of undefined defect structures and other forms of "structure irregularity" that may be present in polymers prepared by this mechanism. Much research has been directed at providing answers for problems of this nature. In this, and in the subsequent chapter, we detail the current status of the efforts to redress these issues. In this chapter, wc focus on how to achieve control by appropriate selection of the reaction conditions in conventional radical polymerization. [Pg.413]

An obvious drawback in RCM-based synthesis of unsaturated macrocyclic natural compounds is the lack of control over the newly formed double bond. The products formed are usually obtained as mixture of ( /Z)-isomers with the (E)-isomer dominating in most cases. The best solution for this problem might be a sequence of RCAM followed by (E)- or (Z)-selective partial reduction. Until now, alkyne metathesis has remained in the shadow of alkene-based metathesis reactions. One of the reasons maybe the lack of commercially available catalysts for this type of reaction. When alkyne metathesis as a new synthetic tool was reviewed in early 1999 [184], there existed only a single report disclosed by Fiirstner s laboratory [185] on the RCAM-based conversion of functionalized diynes to triple-bonded 12- to 28-membered macrocycles with the concomitant expulsion of 2-butyne (cf Fig. 3a). These reactions were catalyzed by Schrock s tungsten-carbyne complex G. Since then, Furstner and coworkers have achieved a series of natural product syntheses, which seem to establish RCAM followed by partial reduction to (Z)- or (E)-cycloalkenes as a useful macrocyclization alternative to RCM. As work up to early 2000, including the development of alternative alkyne metathesis catalysts, is competently covered in Fiirstner s excellent review [2a], we will concentrate here only on the most recent natural product syntheses, which were all achieved by Fiirstner s team. [Pg.353]

Within several of the species there is significant interindividual variation (Table 6.2). This is due, in large part, to a lack of control for tooth type. Several recent studies (Bryant et al. 1996 Fricke and O Neil 1996 Stuart-Williams and... [Pg.127]

The non situ experiment pioneered by Sass uses a preparation of an electrode in an ultrahigh vacuum through cryogenic coadsorption of known quantities of electrolyte species (i.e., solvent, ions, and neutral molecules) on a metal surface. " Such experiments serve as a simulation, or better, as a synthetic model of electrodes. The use of surface spectroscopic techniques makes it possible to determine the coverage and structure of a synthesized electrolyte. The interfacial potential (i.e., the electrode work function) is measured using the voltaic cell technique. Of course, there are reasonable objections to the UHV technique, such as too little water, too low a temperature, too small interfacial potentials, and lack of control of ionic activities. ... [Pg.32]

Touching on drawbacks of vapour-liquid method, we should note that among those there is a lack of control of the thickness of condensed liquid layer on detector surface which may result (for fairly thick liquid layers) in diffusion retardation of oxygen chemisorbtion. The diffusion... [Pg.209]

The singular and defining characteristic enjoyed by the AOS is the way in which its stimuli arrive. Entry of semiochemicals is by fluid-borne presentation via the nose, nose and mouth, or mouth alone. It is a method which avoids many of the vagaries of entirely air-borne delivery. Chemosignalling by whatever route is an inherently wasteful and inefficient way of communicating information because of the lack of control over the transmission medium. The signal that eventually... [Pg.44]

Another group of users appears to seek the bizarreness and lack of control that PCP offers. These individuals, who are likely to manifest much psychopathology apart from the drug abuse, are often threatening and violent. They perceive the actions of others as... [Pg.267]

Another peculiarity of the Spanish situation as regards advertising is its lack of control. The transcription of a Community directive on this issue gave rise to control over advertising being devolved to the autonomous communities, resulting in the virtual disappearance of control over advertising due to the interterritorial nature of promotion activities. [Pg.173]

Each step in the flow diagram is analysed to determine if it is suitable as a CCP for one or more of die hazards found using Principle 1. A production step is a CCP if it fulfils all of the following three requirements the step contains a control measure for the hazard lack of control at this step could lead to this hazard reaching an unacceptable level and subsequent steps are not going to eliminate the hazard. [Pg.492]

The interpretation of voltammetry curve for the Pt(100) surface poses some problems, e.g. the origin of the peak at E=—0.15 V (Fig. 1). Markovifi et al. (12) ascribed this peak to hydrogen adsorption on particular surface imperfections, the (111)-oriented step sites. The height of this peak varies from one set of data to another, indicating a lack of control of the surface structure. Further support of this view will be shown below with the data for stepped surfaces. [Pg.500]
