Labelling of chemicals for supply and use

Safety data sheets must be kept up to date and given to customers before the first delivery and be in the language of the country of the recipient. 

Advertisements of dangerous substances must mention the danger or hazard. 

Also allows a defence of took all reasonable precautions and exercised all due diligence to avoid the commission of that offence. 

The above is a very brief summary of the contents of these complex regulations and can form a general guide only. Where a specific problem arises, reference should be made to the regulations themselves. 

Whenever dangerous substances are transported on the highway or by rail any incident resulting in spillage of the substance could put, not only the members of the emergency service who have to deal with it, but also members of the public at risk. This risk cannot be entirely eliminated so should an incident occur, information about the substance involved must be immediately available so the emergency services can take the correct action and hence reduce to a minimum the likely effects. 

The Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations 2002 (CHIP 2002) are concerned with ensuring that hazardous chemicals when packaged for sale, both to employers and to consumers, are properly packaged and adequately labelled. Also that safety data on the chemicals are provided to the users. 

Suppliers must not supply dangerous substances or dangerous preparations unless they have been classified in accordance with these or other regulations. 

Suppliers of dangerous substances or dangerous preparations must provide customers, who intend using the substance at work, with safety data sheets containing information on the following
