The acetylation of isotripiperideine by means of a ketone in nonpolar media affords a compound which decomposes in acidic media to piperideine and a monoacety.l derivative of the enamine form of tetrahydro-anabasine (195). This monoacetyl derivative is identical with the alkaloid amodendrine (312). A similar acylation with cinnamoylchloride affords the alkaloid orensine (196) (313), the optically active form of which is the natural alkaloid adenocarpine (314). The hydrolysis of alkaloid santiaguine gives a-truxilic acid (314). [Pg.300]

Finally, in this account of multiparameter extensions of the Hammett equation, we comment briefly on the origins of the a, scale. This had its beginning around 1956 in the a scale of Roberts and Moreland for substituents X in the reactions of 4-X-bicyclo[2.2.2]octane-l derivatives. However, at that time few values of o were available. A more practical basis for a scale of inductive substituent constants lay in the o values for XCHj groups derived from Taft s analysis of the reactivities of aliphatic esters into polar, steric and resonance effects . For the few o values available it was shown that o for X was related to o for XCHj by the equation o = 0.45 <7. Thereafter the factor 0.45 was used to calculate c, values of X from o values of XCH2 . ... [Pg.498]

The in vitro trypanocidal and antitumor activities of lfr(cot)L], cot = cyclotetraene, derivatives of dithiocarbamates and xanthates, have been investigated.700 The Ir complexes were characterized by IR spectroscopy, and MO calculations (Hiickel) were performed on the ligands. Similar studies were performed on [Ir(nbr)L], nbr = norbornadiene, L = derivatives of alquil and aryl xanthates 701 and also on [Ir2(cod)2L]X2, where L = 2-hydroxystilbamidine, X = C1, N03, C104, BPh4, and [Ir(cod)L2 ]X, where L = benznidazole, R0-2516, nifurtimox, niridazole. The complex [Ir2(cod)2(2-hydroxystilbami-dine)](BPh4)2 showed the highest activity, as studied by optical microscopy of rats kidneys. [Pg.228]

All of these compounds 151a (Figure 16) have been made from the lithium salt of anionic tridentate phosphino-borate 152 or more conveniently from the thallium(l) derivative 153, available from 152 and T1PF6 in water-methanol media (Scheme 60) <1999CC2379, 1999JA9871, 2001CC2152, 2003IC5074>. [Pg.622]

Acetic acid can be synthesized from methane using an aqueous-phase homogeneous system comprising RhCI as catalyst, CO and 02.17 Side-products included methanol and formic acid, although yields of acetic acid increased upon addition of either Pd/C or iodide ions. The active species is thought to be a CH3-Rh(l) derivative, formed from the C-H activation of methane. The activation of ethane was also achieved, although selectivities were lower, with products including acetic and propionic acids and ethanol (Equation (9)). [Pg.105]

Chiral oxazaborolidines. Enantioselective reduction of ketones with a reagent prepared from BH, and the chiral vic-amino alcohol 1 (12,31) is now known to involve an oxazaborolidine. Thus BH3 and (S)-l, derived from valine, react rapidly in THF to form 2, m.p. 105-110°, which can serve as an efficient catalyst... [Pg.110]
