Knock-ins

Product characterization aims at defining their end-use properties by means of conventional standard measurements related as well as possible — and in any case, being the object of a large consensus— to end-use properties. We cite for example that octane numbers are supposed to represent the resistance of gasoline to knocking in ignition engines. 

Following this, the top manhole should be knocked in and the boiler fired to raise the water temperature to the appropriate level. The fire should then be extinguished.

AP has a very effective binding domain for copper in its N-terminal domain and can bind copper in nanomolar amounts (Figure 18.15). It is unclear whether APP or AP when associated with copper, are in fact neuronal metallochaperones. The quality of diesel fuel is measured using the cetane number, a measure of the tendency of a diesel fuel to knock in a diesel engine, and the scale, from which the cetane number is derived, is based on the ignition characteristics of two hydrocarbons (1) n-hexadecane (cetane) and (2) 2,3,4,5,6,7,8-heptamethylnonane. 

Gasoline with too low an octane number can cause knocking in the engine of a car, when the fuel ignites too easily and burns in an uncontrolled manner. Knocking lowers fuel efficiency, and it can damage the engine.
