Composition The law of mass aclion is expressed as a rate in terms of chemical compositions of the participants, so ultimately the variation of composition with time must be found. The composition is determined in terms of a property that is measured by some instrument and cahbrated in terms of composition. Among the measures that have been used are titration, pressure, refractive index, density, chromatography, spectrometry, polarimetry, conduclimetry, absorbance, and magnetic resonance. In some cases the composition may vary linearly with the observed property, but in every case a calibration is needed. Before kinetic analysis is undertaken, the data are converted to composition as a function of time (C, t), or to composition and temperature as functions of time (C, T, t). In a steady CSTR the rate is observed as a function of residence time. [Pg.707]

Batch Polymerization. Batch polymerization with this mechanism was first treated by Flory (19) using a statistical development. The same results were obtained by Biesenberger (8) using a kinetic analysis with an analytical solution. This was also one of the cases treated by Kilkson (35) using Z-transforms. In the simple cases, his result reduces to the Flory, or random, MWD with the dispersion index of 2. In more complex cases, he solves directly for the moments of the distribution. The electronic properties of Pt particles on different supports and in zeolites of different proton concentrations were also probed with the competitive hydrogenation of toluene and benzene (276). It was found that the ratio of the adsorption coefficients of toluene and benzene hr/6b, which can be obtained from a kinetic analysis of the hydrogenation rate data, can be used as a convenient empirical index for the electronic environment of Pt particles. For Pt in zeolite Y, the ratio was found to increase with increasing acidity, as does the electron deficiency. As for enzyme-coupled reaction system, initial rate itself is estimated by kinetic analysis of reaction curve based on numerical integration and NLSF of calculated reaction curves to a reaction curve of interest. Consequently, neither the conversion of indexes nor the optimization of parameters for such conversion is required and the integration strategy can be realized easily. Although the usual way of analyzing the influence of the kinetics of the electron transfer on the SWV response is based on the variation of the frequency at fixed values of the staircase and square wave amplitude, a new approach for carrying out this analysis has been proposed based on the study of the influence of the square wave amplitude sw on the current potential curves at a fixed value of the frequency (or the time pulse) [19, 33, 34], The square wave amplitude has been used rarely as a tool in mechanistic and kinetic studies. One of the main reason is that, as stated in Sect. 7.1, in SWV the current is plotted versus an index potential which is an average potential between the forward and reverse potentials (see Eq.
