Ketones shifts

The carbonyl absorption of cyclic ketones shifts to higher wavenumber as the size of the ring decreases and the ring strain increases. [Pg.781]

Reactions. The chemical properties of cyanoacetates ate quite similar to those of the malonates. The carbonyl activity of the ester function is increased by the cyano group s tendency to withdraw electrons. Therefore, amidation with ammonia [7664-41-7] to cyanoacetamide [107-91-5] (55) or with urea to cyanoacetylurea [448-98-2] (56) proceeds very easily. An interesting reaction of cyanoacetic acid is the Knoevenagel condensation with aldehydes followed by decarboxylation which leads to substituted acrylonitriles (57) such as (29), or with ketones followed by decarboxylation with a shift of the double bond to give P,y-unsaturated nitriles (58) such as (30) when cyclohexanone [108-94-1] is used. [Pg.470]

The possible presence in the 4-chloro-4-hexenyl trifluoroacetate of small amounts of two cis-trans pairs of products of addition of trifluoroacetic to the triple bond without concomitant halogen shift remains speculative. In any event these compounds would be removed as ketones upon hydrolysis of the trifluoroacetate. Both the 4-chloro-4-hexenyl trifluoroacetate and the alcohol resulting from its hydrolysis have been shown to contain 9% of the (E) isomer. In the present study the hydrogen decoupled magnetic resonance spectra of the ester and alcohol were shown to contain peaks attributable to approximately 9% of E) isomer. [Pg.29]

The C NMR spectrum of the metabolite shows 16 signals instead of 8 as expected from the elemental composition determined by high-resolution mass spectrometry. Moreover, aromaticity of the 2,6-xylenol is obviously lost after metabolism because two ketonic carbonyl carbon atoms (5c = 203.1 and 214.4) and four instead of twelve carbon signals are observed in the shift range of trigonal carbon nuclei (5c = 133.1, 135.4, 135.6 and 139.4) in the C NMR spectra. To conclude, metabolism involves oxidation of the benzenoid ring. [Pg.220]

Most other studies have indicated considerably more complex behavior. The rate data for reaction of 3-methyl-l-phenylbutanone with 5-butyllithium or n-butyllithium in cyclohexane can be fit to a mechanism involving product formation both through a complex of the ketone with alkyllithium aggregate and by reaction with dissociated alkyllithium. Evidence for the initial formation of a complex can be observed in the form of a shift in the carbonyl absorption band in the IR spectrum. Complex formation presumably involves a Lewis acid-Lewis base interaction between the carbonyl oxygen and lithium ions in the alkyllithium cluster. [Pg.464]

The dienol is unstable, and two separate processes have been identified for ketonization. These are a 1,5-sigmatropic shift of hydrogen leading back to the enone and a base-catalyzed proton transfer which leads to the / ,y-enone. The deconjugated enone is formed because of the kinetic preference for reprotonation of the dienolate at the a carbon. Photochemical deconjugation is a synthetically useful way of effecting isomerization of a,) -unsaturated ketones and esters to the j ,y-isomers. [Pg.759]

Therefore it is possible to determine absorption spectra directly on the TLC plate by comparison with a substance-free portion of the layer. The wavelengths usually correspond to the spectra of the same substances in solution. However, adsorbents (silanols, amino and polyamide groups) and solvent traces (pH differences) can cause either bathochromic (ketones, aldehydes [60, 61], dyestuffs [62]) or hypsochromic (phenols, aniline derivatives [63]) shifts (Fig. 23). [Pg.31]

The most efficient intramolecular secondary processes competing with the acyl-alkyl diradical recombination in five-membered and larger cyclic ketones are hydrogen shifts resulting in the disproportionation of the diradical to either ketenes or unsaturated aldehydes [cf. (5) (4) (6)]. [Pg.293]

In radical reactions not involving bromine or chlorine on the substrate, rearrangements are much rarer One example is the fluorination of di-tert butyl ketone which produces perfluormated / rt-buty isobutyl ketone [J5] Although isolated yields are poor only the rearranged ketone could be isolated This is perhaps only the second example of a 1,2-acyl shift Low fluorine substrate ratios show that this rearrangement occurs after monofluorination... [Pg.108]

Because of Us high polarity and low nucleophilicity, a trifluoroacetic acid medium is usually used for the investigation of such carbocationic processes as solvolysis, protonation of alkenes, skeletal rearrangements, and hydride shifts [22-24] It also has been used for several synthetically useful reachons, such as electrophilic aromatic substitution [25], reductions [26, 27], and oxidations [28] Trifluoroacetic acid is a good medium for the nitration of aromatic compounds Nitration of benzene or toluene with sodium nitrate in trifluoroacetic acid is almost quantitative after 4 h at room temperature [25] Under these conditions, toluene gives the usual mixture of mononitrotoluenes in an o m p ratio of 61 6 2 6 35 8 A trifluoroacetic acid medium can be used for the reduction of acids, ketones, and alcohols with sodium borohydnde [26] or triethylsilane [27] Diary Iketones are smoothly reduced by sodium borohydnde in trifluoroacetic acid to diarylmethanes (equation 13)... [Pg.946]
