A different type of river salinization in a dryland environment is represented by the Jordan River Basin along the border between Israel and Jordan. From the viewpoint of absolute configuration, 59 is very unusual, because it contains both (if)- and (.V)-configured. rcc-butyl terminals in its alkyl chains. Weathering of continental rocks increases their TDS and concentrations of calcium and bicarbonate relative to sodium and chloride. The composition of streams so affected plot to the left of both diagrams and include the Columbia, Mississippi, Yukon, and Thames rivers. Evaportranspiration from arid climate drainage basins and streams such as the Colorado, Pecos, and Jordan rivers, which receive soil runoff and irrigation return waters, further increase the Na and TDS content of streams. King Talal Dam is built on the Zarqa River in Jordan to provide irrigation for 59,000 dunams of land along the Jordan River Valley. It is an earth and rockfill dam with a central clay core, about 100 meters high.
