Mount Hermon

The Jurassic layers are mainly carbonates in the north and they become sandy toward the south. In the north, carbonate rocks of Jurassic age form the aquifer of Mount Hermon, which is the main source of the Jordan River through the Dan and Banias springs. Saline water has been found in deeply buried blocks which were reached by oil exploration wells (Bentor, 1969), in northern Israel.

Obviously the Judah s Rabbi were not ignorant of Dan s prophesies. Neither were they eomfortable with the prophecy of Jeremiah, whieh separates the ehildren Israel from those of Judah. Jeremiah says the Danite Messiah will judge of the sins of Judah. He adds that this Messiah will reign from the territory of Moimt Hermon (Sion) in Dan rather than Mount Zion in Jerusalem ... 

The gushing spring of Helicon is equivalent to the source of the Jordan River at Paneas, sixty-three kilometers south of Damascus and twenty kilometers from the triple peaked Mount Hermon. As previously mentioned. Mount Hermon has more than twenty ancient temples, which is unusual for a Phoenician coastal site. However, many regard another mountain, the triple-peaked Mount Lebanon, as the legendary Mount Hermon.
