There are various metals that can produce granulomas (Jones Williams 1971) (mercury, chrome, zirconium, cobalt, aluminium and beryllium). The most frequent granulomas occurring with this type of work are those produced by cobalt and beryllium however, it is necessary to keep in mind that aluminium and zirconium contained in deoderants can also produce this clinical picture. [Pg.986]

The granulomas and frequently found inclusion bodies due to beryllium are indistinguishable from those in sarcoidosis (Jones Williams 1977). Non specific interstitial inflammation is more pronounced in beryllium disease than in sarcoidosis and correlates better with prognosis than the number of granulomas (Freiman and Hardy 1970).
