ASME B16.20-1998(R2004) Metallic gaskets for pipe flanges—ring-joint, spiral-wound, and jacketed (ASME International). [Pg.1055]

The leaks that lead to explosions in compressor houses are often not from a compressor but from other equipment, such as pipe joints. One such leak occurred because a spiral-wound gasket had been replaced by a compressed asbestos fiber one, probably as temporary measure, seven years earlier. Once installed, it was replaced by a similar one during subsequent maintenance [30]. [Pg.69]

The size and frequency of leaks can be reduced by using spiral-wound gaskets in place of compressed asbestos fiber ones. Screwed joints should not be used. [Pg.176]

The mating Joint between the seal gland and the seal chamber face shall incorporate a confined gasket to prevent blowout. The gasket shall be of the controlled compression type, for example, an O-ring ora spiral wound... [Pg.50]

The patented dual-tab concept [18] has been applied effectively to the spiral-wound design of VRLA in a project funded jointly by the UK government and the ALABC to develop HEV batteries [3]. The design of the cell used in this demonstration is shown in Fig. 17.10(a), where the positive and negative connections can be seen projecting from each end of the unit. The performance of this cell has been compared with that of the conventional, single-tab cell from which it was... [Pg.560]

For the majority of moderate-temperature services, composition gaskets on raised face flanges are acceptable. At flanged joints where additional reliability is desired or for higher temperatures, spiral-wound gaskets on raised face flanges should be used. For services with special temperature, pressure, or chemical hazard problems, a ring-type joint or equivalent should be considered. [Pg.289]
