James studies

Early diffraction photographs of such DNA fibers taken by Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins in London and interpreted by James Watson and Francis Crick in Cambridge revealed two types of DNA structures A-DNA and B-DNA. The B-DNA form is obtained when DNA is fully hydrated as it is in vivo. A-DNA is obtained under dehydrated nonphysiological conditions. Improvements in the methods for the chemical synthesis of DNA have recently made it possible to study crystals of short DNA molecules of any selected sequence. These studies have essentially confirmed the refined fiber diffraction models for A- and B-DNA and in addition have given details of small structural variations for different DNA sequences. Furthermore, a new structural form of DNA, called Z-DNA, has been discovered. 

The Reactor Safety Study (RSS) directed by Professor Norman Rasmussen of MIT may have had its beginnings in a letter from Senator Pastore to James Schlesinger, AEC Chairman, requesting risk information for the Price-Anderson renewal. The RSS study began in September 1972 with Saul Levine, full-time staff director assisted by John Bewick and Thomas Murley (all AEC).

One year later, 22-year-old James Watson completed his Ph.D. studies on bacterial viruses at Indiana University and began postdoctoral research in biochemistry in Copenhagen. After a year at Copenhagen, Watson decided Cambridge was the place to be. 

James and Hagee have reported a study of the high temperature vaporization chemistry in the Au-Ce system including the formation of vapour complex species of gold and silver with copper and iron.

James Mason Crafts (1839-19171 was bo 1 n in Boston, Massachusetts, and graduated from Harvard in 1858, Although he did not receive a Ph D., he studied with eminent chemists in Europe for several years and was appointed in 1868 as the firs professor of chemistry at the newly founded Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Ithaca winters proved too seve-e, however, and he soon moved to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he served as president from 1897 to 1900. 

Taking up the idea of "correlated wave functions containing r12, James and Coolidge (1933) made a careful study of the H2 problem and, after a great deal of numerical work, they obtained finally an energy value in complete agreement with experience. This was another successful test of the validity of the Schrodinger...
