The determination of chemical elements falls within the scope of the CRL for residues at the Istituto Superiore di Sanita (ISS), Rome [29]. By means of prob-ciency testing, the ISS-CRL constantly monitors the performance of the NRLs as regards the determination of trace elements. Recently, a cooperation was established with the IRMM to organize an IMEP ILC for NRLs on trace elements analysis in tuna bsh. As a follow-up of this cooperation specibc training activities for NRLs are scheduled to be jointly organized by the IRMM and the ISS-CRL. [Pg.174]

The production of biological and environmental Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) is one of the main activities of the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM), Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, Geel (Belgium) (1). The Reference Materials Unit was therefore requested by the Istituto Superiore di Sanita (ISS), Rome (Italy) to perform the transformation of a batch of ca. 80 kg wet Antarctic coastal marine sediment, eollected in the Terra Nova Bay during the XI Italian Expedition to the Antarctic, into a sampled, dry and conservable powder to be certified for the content of a range of elements. [Pg.293]

In 1935 he was invited to Oxford University, and in 1936 he became demonstrator and lecturer in chemical pathology. In 1948 he was appointed scientific director of the International Research Center for Chemical Microbiology at the Istituto Superiore di San-ita, Rome. He became professor of biochemistry at Imperial College, University of London, in 1961, until 1973. Later, he became professor emeritus and senior research fellow (1973-76) and fellow (1978-79). [Pg.44]

Finally, there is the Istituto Superiore di Sanity in Rome, one of the most active and important research groups in Italy. Headed by Marotta, it maintains laboratories for organic, therapeutic, and biological chemistry, microbiology, parasitology, and other sciences. Scientists of international reputation, such as D. Bovet and many others, are on its staff. Since 1937 the institute has published the Rendiconti istiluto superiore di sanild. [Pg.501]
