Isoproterenol bronchospasm with

Isoproterenol and phenylephrine bitartrate Treatment of bronchospasm associated with acute and chronic asthma reversible bronchospasm that may be associated with emphysema or chronic bronchitis. [Pg.710]

In patients with status asthmaticus and abnormal blood gas tensions, improvement in vital capacity and blood gas tensions may not accompany apparent relief of bronchospasm following isoproterenol. [Pg.722]

Isoproterenol, a sympathomimetic amine with bronchodi-lating and cardiac stimulant properties, is indicated in the treatment of complete heart block, after closnre of ventricular septal defect, to prevent heart block, as maintenance therapy in AV block, as treatment of bronchospasm dnring mild acute asthma attacks, bronchospasm in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchospasm dnring mild acute asthma attacks or in chronic obstrnctive pnhnonary disease, acute asthma attacks unresponsive to inhalation therapy or control of bronchospasm dnring anesthesia, for bronchodilation, emergency treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, immediate temporary control of atropine-resistant hemodynamically significant bradycardia, and as adjnnct therapy in the treatment of shock. [Pg.364]

Isoproterenol (aerosol delivers 131 mcg/dose in hne mist) is indicated in the treatment of bronchospasm associated with acute and bronchial asthma, pnlmonary emphysema, bronchitis, and bronchiectasis. Parenteral isoproterenol is indicated as an adjnnct to flnid and electrolyte replacement therapy in the treatment of hypovolemic and septic shock, low cardiac ontpnt states, CHF, and cardiogenic shock. Sublingual or rectal isoproterenol is... [Pg.364]

Albuterol (ventoun, proventil, others) is a selective P2 agonist with pharmacological properties and therapeutic indications similar to those of terbutaline. It is administered by inhalation or orally for the symptomatic relief of bronchospasm. When administered by inhalation, terbutaline produces significant bronchodilation within 15 minutes effects persist for 3-4 hours. Cardiovascular effects of albuterol are considerably weaker than those of isoproterenol that produce comparable bronchodilation when administered by inhalation. Oral albuterol may delay preterm labor. Rare CNS and respiratory side effects are sometimes observed. [Pg.160]
