Sexton et al. reported favourable psychometric results for the SAQ, with strong evidence for reliability and validity. Subsequent studies (Etchegaray and Thomas 2012 Profit et al. 2012 Schwendimann et al. 2012 Weng et al. 2012) have yielded similar results at the individual and unit level. In addition to psychometric findings, much research exists about the SAQ as a measure of intervention success. Integrated within this area of research is examination of the SAQ as a predictor of outcomes. We review both of these areas of research. 

To create the possibility of change, more generally, we carmot depend solely on the unit of the individual. Meaningful management needs to examine the powerful normative institutions that are unique to socially aggregated behaviors and the protection of collective interests. Environmental externalities, whether they flow out of the tailpipes of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) or the lawn at the end of a cul-de-sac, form a specifically social puzzle necessitating social-level intervention. 

A final example of totally automated HPLC (although it isn t for pesticides) will demonstrate how many different unit operations can be done in a single system to take the tedium out of repetitive analyses. The drug analyzer depicted in Figure 14 was designed to determine therapeutic levels of theophylline in human serum (8). Unlike most other genetic diseases, PKU is unique in that, once diagnosed, it can be successfully treated. Moreover, while medical intervention is not inexpensive, it is far more cost-effective than treating the manifestations of the disease itself (NIH Consensus Statement, 2000). For these reasons, screening for HPA is public policy in the United States and many other countries. In patients with HPA, plasma PA levels are typically normal at birth but quickly rise after the initiation of protein feedings.
