The International Centre for Pesticides and Health Risk Prevention (ICPS) promoted and developed the data bank PESTIDOC, in order to collect and record a selected technical and scientific documentation on pesticides, and to make a quickly available user-friendly information for different kinds of users (both specialized and non-specialized users at local, national and international level). The database has been developed through a multidisciplinary approach, by unifying the information spread in different data repositories and by collecting data on human health, environmental health, and regulatory issues.

(2001), sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Agency for Atomic Energy (IAEA) through their joint FAO/IAEA Training and Reference Centre for Food and Pesticide Control. 

These activities have enabled WHOPES to plan for the expansion of the Scheme to include the testing and evaluation of a greater variety of pesticides. In recent years, WHOPES has also vigorously promoted the use of WHO specifications for public health pesticides in accordance with the International Code of Conduct on Distribution and Use of Pesticides. Examples of such efforts include the development and wide distribution of guidelines for the purchase of pesticides for public health use, provision of access to WHO specifications for pesticides and their test methods on the Internet, and an increase in the number of WHO collaborating centres for quality control of pesticides (currently three).

In 1997, the FAO and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) responded with the establishment of the FAO/IAEA Training and Reference Centre for Food and Pesticide Control (TRC), as part of the activities of the Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture, based in Vienna, Austria.
