Internal strength

Starches used to increase the internal strength of paper as measured by tensile, edge cmsh resistance, Mullen burst, and Scott bond strength are added at the wet end, whereas starch used to increase surface strength as measured by pick and resistance to Hnting are added at the size press. [Pg.19]

At high (50—100 pph) saturation levels, with a near thermoplastic elastomer, a leather-like material results that can be embossed. The paper web used ia pressure-seasitive tape is prepared by latex saturatioa ia order to give it sufficieat internal strength to release without delamiaatioa. [Pg.260]

Cohesive strength is the internal strength of an adhesive or the ability of the adhesive to resist splitting. Unlike tack and adhesion strength, cohesive strength is not influenced by the substrate. [Pg.619]

Organizational factors—synergism with other products of the firm, taking advantage of internal strengths of the firm, diversify the risks of the total firm investment portfolio. [Pg.330]

QUALITATIVE COMMENTS (with 60 mg) As important as the experience was, itself, I feel that it was in the two or three days that followed that it had the most profound impact on me. It was at the time of the death of my wife s mother, and I found that I could look directly towards death and its ramifications. Including my own death. I felt very close to the Higher Powers that seemed to make their presence felt all around. And there was still the deep internal strength that was the direct product of the 3-TME experience. I feel it very strongly, still, but I have no desire to repeat the experience right away. It is almost as if the effects are still in evidence, and one should take one s time in letting it manifest all its ramifications. But it is certainly an experience one should have once a year, if not oftener. ... [Pg.449]

One conclusion is obvious. The stability of metals is determined by the events at the interface between these metals and their environment. The internal strength of a metal (particularly a metal under stress) is influenced in the long run by events at its surface. If the surface of a metal is stable, its interior tends to remain so. The detrimental transformation of the bulk properties of a metal begins at its surface. This, then, is a link between civilization, surfaces, and, as will be seen, electrochemical reactions. [Pg.125]

Customer portfolio strategy. This has to be focused on the externally and internally most attractive customers. Selecting a customer portfolio which is in tune with the compan/s own internal strengths reduces complexity and increases overall profitability. [Pg.164]

The essential reason for these different appearances is the internal strength described in Section 6.4, the cohesion of the materials, due to their differing atomic or molecule structure. [Pg.125]

Surface tension Measure for internal strength of liquids characterizing their wetting behavior of surfaces. Liquids with low surface tension disperse equally on surfaces, high surface tensions result in rolling off from the surface (e.g., mercury drops). [Pg.163]

Changes have come about in the attitudes of US. chemical corporations towards their marketplace during the postwar period. Worldwide marketing, as seen by the customer, moved from the suppliers being an aloof, distant seller of excess production to an involved local marketer with international strengths. The several major problems, real and imagined, that have been encountered during the transition are described and solutions proposed. [Pg.194]

This review discusses the above factors and the instrumentation used to measure the internal strength of high methoxyl pectin gels. These are categorized into instruments which are nondestructive of the gel and measures its elastic properties or destructive type instruments which exceed the gel s strength. [Pg.88]

Standard apple jellies were prepared having a soluble solids of 65% and a pH of 3.15. Five commercial citrus pectins standardized to 150° SAG were used in the study. Pectin dosage was varied between 0.1% and 0.5%. The resulting jellies were tested for Breaking Strength or internal strength on the Voland Stevens Tester. The results are shown in Figure 6. [Pg.108]

The differences that were observed in breaking strength or Internal strength between the four pectin samples, all of which had a 150 SAG and a degree of methoxylatlon (DM) of 65, can be attributed to differences in molecular weigiht. Most investigations so far have worked on slow set pectins, which on the U. S. market is by far the most widely used pectin type. [Pg.113]

The most advanced jelly and jam companies have for several years been working with methods whereby they determine the internal strength of each individual pectin lot in order to adjust the dosage accordingly. This to us demonstrates the need for the pectin industry to standardize to constant internal strength so that the jelly and jam maker can be assured of a constant and equal pectin dosage from one pectin lot to the next. [Pg.115]
