Figure 13.55 shows the principle of a gas sensor based on an electrically tunable micromachined Fabry-Perot interferometer, and the shifting ol the pass band controlled by rhe tuning voltage. [Pg.1312]

In addition to interference filters, NIR manufacturers use holographic gratings (moving and fixed), interferometers, polarization interferometers, diode arrays, acoustic-optic tunable filters, as well as some specialty types. [Pg.172]

Because NIR was initially used for food and agriculture products, it has evolved as a technique for complex matrices. Many types of hardware have become available for NIR work interference filters, gratings, interferometers, diode arrays, and acousto-optic tunable filters. And, as it was originally developed for complex mixtures, chemometrics has been an integral part of any NIR analysis for the last few decades. NIR practitioners are quite comfortable with multivariate equations and development of equations for complex matrices. [Pg.391]

Experimental Techniques. A block diagram of the experimental set-up used for saturated absorption experiments is shown in Figure 1. The argon laser is a commercial 4W tube in a home made cavity. This cavity is made of three Invar rods, decoupled from the tube in order to avoid vibrations. Line selection is made with a prism, and single frequency operation is obtained with a Michel son interferometer. The laser can be frequency locked to a stable Fabry-Perot resonator with a double servo-loop acting on a fast PZT for line narrowing and on a galvo-plate for wide tuna-bility. This results in a linewidth of less than 10 KHz and a continuous tunability of 6 GHz. [Pg.490]

This uitrasonio-opticai technique (or haif-opticai technique [89]) was aiso a hyphenated technique in terms of energy sources viz. thermai and opticai for phonon and photon production, respectiveiy). Thermai surface phonons restrict practical application of the technique owing to their iow scattering efficiency, which results in overly long data collection times (typicaiiy severai hours for a singie spectrum, even with advanced multipass interferometers). Similar to active Raman spectroscopy, coherent acoustic phonons are assumed to be excited by two narrow-line frequency tunable laser beams at different frequencies or by laser pulses of short duration compared to the acoustic period. [Pg.336]

Extremely quiet and rapid monochromators are now available from numerous vendors. As covered in detail in Chapter 2, top-notch monochromators (grating and interferometer), diode arrays, accousto-optic tunable filters, as well as modern interference-filter instruments now exist. Fiber optic probes, multiple detector modules, and transmission attachments all lend themselves to superior sample handling of powders and solid dosage forms. [Pg.133]

Laser-induced fluorescence photofragment spectroscopy studies with state-selective interfragment recoil measurement have not been performed to any appreciable extent. A preliminary kind of experiment has recently been carried out in an MPD case by using the time-of-flight technique under bulk condition and with rather limited spectral resolution. A Doppler spectroscopy study has been carried out in a one-photon dissociation case where electronically excited fragments were produced under bulk condition, and linewidth measurement was made in emission interferomet-rically. A first experiment with tunable LIF detection has been made recently by McDonald et al., who dissociated HN3 at 266 nm and... [Pg.135]

More recently, Vogt et al. (1984 b) recorded the NN stretching band of gaseous diazomethane by means of an interferometer and a tunable diode laser spectrometer. With that equipment, the structure of the band was resolved for the first time, and nine subbands were analyzed. The recording was made with a resolution of 0.07 cm ... [Pg.147]

Now several thousands of laser lines are known which span the whole spectral range from the vacuum-ultraviolet to the far-infrared region. Of particular inters are the continuously tunable lasers which may in many cases replace wavelength-selecting elements, such as spectrometers or interferometers. In combination with optical frequency-mixing techniques such continuously tunable monochromatic coherent light sources are available at nearly any desired wavelength above 100 nm. [Pg.770]
