Intercalation compounds lithium insertion

Intercalation Compounds. The insertion or intercalation compounds are among the most useful cathode materials. In these compounds, a guest species such as lithium can be inserted interstitially into the host lattice (during discharge) and subsequently extracted during recharge with little or no structural modification of the host. [Pg.1018]

Lithium vanadate bronzes are intercalated compounds with potential applications for lithium battery technology, since Li can be reversibly inserted into these stmctures by electrochemical reaction. Li NMR has been used to study the stmcture of 7-Lio.95V205 (Cocciantelli et al. 1992) and a series of related bronzes LixV205 (Cocciantelli et al. 1992a). The Li NMR spectrum of the -y-phase indicates the presence of a single Li site, but as the Li content is increased beyond x = 1, new lines can be resolved, corresponding... [Pg.637]

Group 1. - 7Li NMR spectroscopy was used to characterise a lithium/ graphite intercalation compound with a formula close to LiC 1 In situ solid-state 7Li NMR data were reported for lithium inserted into disordered carbon. There was evidence for both Lis+ and metallic lithium species.2 7Li and 13C solid-state NMR spectra were used to characterise a mesoporous tantalum oxide lithium fulleride (Ceo) composite material.3... [Pg.133]

On the other hand, from the results of CTs, it is likely that the rate of the lithium insertion/desertion should be limited by the internal cell resistance during potential scanning as well, not by lithium diffusion in the electrode. In fact, it has been reported by a few authors " that the linear sweep/cyclic voltanunograms from the intercalation compounds were difficult to analyze under the diffusion control concept. In addition, the voltammetric results in a number of... [Pg.297]

Materials for cathodes and anodes (insertion electrodes) for rechargeable lithium batteries are called intercalation compounds and constimte a special class of electroactive material [122]. The intercalation refers to the reversible insertion of mobile guest species into a crystalline host lattice, which contains an interconnected system of empty lattice sites of appropriate size, while the structural integrity of the host lattice is formally conserved [122]. [Pg.98]

The formation of a nanostructure in the intercalation compound not only enables the expansion and contraction of the host material during guest insertion and extraction, but also increases the surface to volume ratio. Recently, V2O5 synthesis focussed on the manufacture of nanostmctured or mesoporous scaffolds with the aim to improve their lithium ion intercalation properties, which are limited by an inherently low diffusion coefficient D < 10 cm s ) and a moderate electrical conductivity ([Pg.91]
