Interactome/interactomics

Interactomics (Interactome) The study of the interactions between genes, RNA, proteins and metabolites within the cell. [Pg.19]

Interactome Interactome is defined as the whole set of molecular interactions in cells. Databases describing molecular interactions and genetic networks will provide a link at the functional level between the genome, the proteome, and the transcriptome worlds of different organisms. Interaction databases therefore aim at describing the contents, structure, function, and behavior of what we herein define as the interactome world. [Pg.209]

Figure 28.1 A small segment of the yeast interactome. The spheres represent proteins and the interconnecting lines are identified protein interactions. Many proteins are seen to interact with one or two other proteins, but some can have over a dozen other interacting partners. Figure 28.1 A small segment of the yeast interactome. Outcome of the methods used in bioinformatics allow scientists to build a global protein structural interaction map. The first developed map is called PSIMAP (Protein Structural Interactome Map). It has low resolution and allows production of a draft map for very large-scale protein interaction study. Protein maps reveal that protein structures have distinct preferences for their interacting partners and the interactions are not random. Some proteins have only one interaction partner whereas some have more. Some protein groups function as separately while others work within larger complexes. Also, many proteins possess homointeraction. [Pg.122]
