In order to ensure safe loading of powders into gas EX zones 0 and 1 (hybrid mixtures), the MULTIJECTOR vacuum conveyors can be expanded into so called INEX systems (Figure 17.15). An integrated powder lock andinerting system eliminates any possible ignition source. The German TUV has also published a further ATEX certificate for the INEX vacuum conveyors. With that, there is now a safe alternative available since the up-to-now used methods lead to many accidents. [Pg.327]

The shaping of these fine, submicrometer powders into complex components and their subsequent consoHdation into dense ceramic parts of ideally zero porosity is a major technological challenge. The parts formed need to be consoHdated to near-net shape because Si N machining requires expensive diamond grinding. Additionally, Si N dissociates at or near the typical densiftcation temperatures used in the fabrication of stmctural ceramics and, therefore, special measures have to be taken to preserve the compositional integrity of the material. [Pg.322]

For water, organic and water-organic metal salts mixtures the dependence of integral and spectral intensities of coherent and non-coherent scattered radiation on the atomic number (Z), density, oscillator layer thickness, chemical composition, and the conditions of the registering of analytical signals (voltage and tube current, tube anode material, crystal-analyzer) was investigated. The dependence obtained was compared to that for the solid probes (metals, alloys, pressed powder probes). [Pg.444]

The chloride is mixed on a laboratory scale with xs Ca (powder or chips) in an Fe tube in a high-T glass distillation vessel. The Fe tube protects the glass from corrosive attack by the alkali-metal vapors. The vessel is inclined and evacuated while slowly heating to 700-800°C. The liberated Rb or Cs distills onto the cooler upper walls of the vessel and runs into integral glass ampules, which are sealed under vacuum for storage. Further purification is achieved by repeated. vacuum distillation at 300°C. Yields arc theoretical. [Pg.348]

Figure 21.22 shows the comparison between the XEL spectra of Ba3BP3 Oi2 Eu and that of Bi4Ge30i2 powders with the same measurement conditions. It is worthwhile to note that both spectra have a similar broad emission band. The integral area of the emission bands for Ba3BP30i2 Eu powders is... [Pg.319]

A wide variety of NMR methods are being applied to understand solid acids including zeolites and metal halides. Proton NMR is useful for characterizing Brpnsted sites in zeolites. Many nuclei are suitable for the study of probe molecules adsorbed directly or formed in situ as either intermediates or products. Adsorbates on metal halide powders display a rich carbenium ion chemistry. The interpretation of NMR experiments on solid acids has been greatly improved by Ae integration of theoretical chemistry and experiment. [Pg.573]

The reader is referred the recent book by Bell and Pines [2] for a more complete overview of the various methods and objectives in NMR studies of solid acids and other heterogeneous catalysis. In the present contribution we illustrate the application of H, and MAS NMR to two archetypal solid acids, Brpnsted sites in zeolites and solid metal halides such as aluminum chloride and bromide powders which exhibit "Lewis superacidity". An important characteristic of the more recent work is the integration of quantum chemical calculations into the design and interpretation of the NMR experiments. [Pg.574]

FT-IR spectra were recorded at RT on a Perkin-Elmer 1760-X spectrophotometer equipped with a cryodetector, at a resolution of 2 cm-" (number of scans -100). In the 1070-960 cm- region, band integration and curve fitting were carried out by Curve fit, in Spectra Calc. (Galactic Industries Co.). Powdered materials were pelleted in self-supporting discs of 25-50 mg cm-2 and 0.1-0.2 mm thick, placed in an IR cell allowing thermal treatments in vacuo or in a controlled atmosphere. [Pg.692]

Nonmetal electrodes are most often fabricated by pressing or rolling of the solid in the form of fine powder. For mechanical integrity of the electrodes, binders are added to the active mass. For higher electronic conductivity of the electrode and a better current distribution, conducting fillers are added (carbon black, graphite, metal powders). Electrodes of this type are porous and have a relatively high specific surface area. The porosity facilitates access of dissolved reactants (H+ or OH ions and others) to the inner electrode layers. [Pg.441]
