Injection moulders/moulding

Nowadays, the injection moulder can be supplied with uniform quality granules which consist of partially polymerised resin, fillers and additives. The formulation of the material is such that it will flow easily in the barrel with a slow rate of polymerisation. The curing is then completed rapidly in the mould. [Pg.304]

Injection moulding The injection moulder is a machine which first melts a thermoplastic and then injects that molten polymer into a mould. Such items as baskets, bowls, bins, telephones and electronic housings are produced by this technique. It can be used for lining valves. In this case the valve would be used as part of the mould. Very thick coatings are produced which give chemical resistance to the valve. At the same time, the metal valve housing will protect the valve from mechanical damage. [Pg.750]

This is part 19 of a series of articles designed to help injection moulders understand how a few analytical tools can help diagnose a part failure problem. It deals with the particular case of exterior parts moulded from flexible PVC that developed black stains after a relatively short period of time exposed to the elements. Full details of the problem and the solution are presented. [Pg.122]

Injection moulding allows the automated mass production of articles that may have complex shapes and whose properties can be varied by choosing different materials and the appropriate processing conditions. The basic principle of the method is shown in fig. 1.8(a). Polymer contained in a hopper is fed into a cylinder where it is pushed by a ram or plunger through a heated region, in which it melts, into a mould. The filled mould is allowed to cool and the solidified product is ejected. The ram is then drawn back and the process is repeated. This simple process suffers from a number of disadvantages and modern injection moulders are always of the screw-injection type illustrated in fig. 1.8(b). [Pg.23]

The border of the Load task will now change to black indicating the task has been analysed for its micro requirements. Click the floppy symbol in the menu bar to save the analysis. Do this after every task analysis. Double click on the Mould task. Fill in the details as below. Click on the Equipment button and select Injection Moulder. Click on the Tool button and select Injection Mould. Leave Check Capacity. Fill in the remaining details. Click on Cost Analysis button. [Pg.56]

Injection moulding technology can be employed successfully to process a wide variety of materials. In all cases the basic requirements are adequate equipment for the injection moulding machine and a suitable material. When these requirements are met, injection moulders have a good chance to win a larger share of the market. [Pg.138]

Two injection molding grade homopolymer polypropylene (PP) resins were rrsed as received from ExxonMobil Chemical Corp. PP1042 (referred to as PP-2, MFR = 2 g/lOmin) and PP1105E1 (referred to as PP-35, MFR = 35 g/10 min). Samples were injection-moulded (Engel 55 ton injection moulder) 3.2 x 50 x 133 mm plaques. [Pg.1592]

The Remaker, built by Kleindiant in Germany, employs an intrusion moulder. The screw-plasticised mixture is injected at a relatively low pressure through a large diameter gate into aluminium moulds mounted on a conventional press. This machine is very effective for small flexible items but cannot handle mixtures containing PVC because of the relatively long dwell time in the machine. [Pg.86]

The moulder aims to achieve a moulding without flash. Flashless injection moulding has been made possible through the building of moulds with extremely close tolerances that are capable of resisting very high pressures at mould seam lines. Such accuracy... [Pg.42]

Cutting manufacturing costs was a crucial factor in the decision by Fokker to choose PEEK instead of metal alloy for vital components in the F100. Other important factors were low density, resistance to hydraulic fluids, low flammability, and excellent mechanical properties. The support bar measures 400 X 1(K) X 300 mm and weighs 1.0 kg, making it one of the largest injection mouldings so far made in Victrex PEEK, and a considerable achievement for the moulders, AGF, BV. [Pg.400]

The eharacteristics of most interest to the injeetion moulder are those whieh are needed in order to melt the injeetion moulding compound and inject it into the mould. It is important to know the temperature at whieh the individual plastic becomes molten, since different plasties reaet differently to heating depending on the holding power of the ehains of molecules. We also need to know the deeomposition temperature, where the molecule chains break apart into smaller ehains or into the initial materials. This proeess is described as gasification, and indicates severe damage to the material. [Pg.20]

The trend towards multi-material moulding has been pushed by the growing importance of added value manufacture to give moulders commercial advantages over their rivals. An increase in the importance of material recycling has also aided the growth in co-injection technologies, where encapsulation enables recyclate materials to be used. [Pg.214]
