A. General description Octreotide is a long-acting cyclic octapeptide (molecular weight 1.0 kDa) with pharmacologic actions mimicking those of the natural hormone somatostatin. The usefulness of natural somatostatin is limited by its extremely short duration of action, which requires continuous infusion. Octreotide is a molecular form (an octapeptide with two D-amino-acid substitutions) that overcomes the problem of short duration of action. [Pg.241]

Isidorus Hispalensis or Isidorus of Seville was a writer of the seventh century who wrote a work on the origin and signification of words. For such definition and descriptions as pertain to natural science he was dependent upon Greek and Latin authors with no infusion of Arabian science. Clinical trials conducted during development (as described below in Sects. 12.2.6 and 12.2.7) were similar in a number of ways. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were almost identical across studies. These studies focused on the treatment of patients with relapsed or refractory LG/F NHL. Patients were dosed at 375 mg m of rit-uximab by intravenous infusion weekly for a total of four doses. This consistency resulted in a degree of homogeneity that allowed for analyses across studies as well as comparisons between studies.
