For the staging of sarcoidosis, a system based on chest radiographs is in clinical use stage I consists of bilateral hilar adenopathy in stage II sarcoidosis, patients have bilateral hilar adenopathy and diffuse parenchymal infiltration stage III describes parenchymal infiltration without hilar adenopathy. Some authorities use a stage IV classification to indicate irreversible fibrosis. 

However, in a systemic host of TMV (P. floridana) the infiltration of tannic acid (0.034%) 24 hours after virus inoculation reduced virus titer about 75% during the first week after infection. After two weeks there was no significant difference in total virus content between tannic acid-treated and water-treated samples. Thus tannic acid does interfere with virus synthesis at an early stage in a temporary way. 

The neuromuscular complications of diabetes mellitus are most often neuropathic in origin, with distal sensorimotor polyneuropathies being the most common. In addition, ischemic infarction of skeletal muscle may occur due to occlusive vascular disease, with small and medium-sized arterioles particularly affected. This occurs in poorly-controlled diabetes and affects thigh, muscles in most cases. In acute stages, muscle biopsy findings are those of widespread muscle necrosis, edema, and phagocytic cell infiltration. Muscle regeneration may be incomplete and increased fibrous connective tissue may replace lost muscle tissue.

A radically new stage of development of lateral models is related to the application of PT methodology. The term percolation was introduced by Broadbent and Hammersley [225] to describe the new class of mathematical problems connected to the analysis of infiltration of liquids or the path of an electrical current through a labyrinth of bonded and nonbonded elements. This theory has become very fashionable in various fields of physics, chemistry, and technical applications (e.g., a problem of displacement of oil from a porous medium [8,223,226,227]). The basics of this theory has been comprehensively discussed in several reviews [121,228-232] and monographs [8,233,234],... 

Root caries can occur when tooth roots are exposed to the oral environment, for example after periodontal surgery or gingival recession. Two stages are distinguished microscopically. First, the dentin mineral is dissolved and bacteria penetrate the tubules. Second, the demineralized dentin matrix is degraded, and bacteria infiltrate the intertubular area (Frank et al., 1989 Frank, 1990 Schiipbach et al., 1989). This sequence of events may indicate that the degradation of the dentin matrix occurs after it has become accessible by the removal of mineral. In an in vitro study, Klont and Ten Cate (1991) confirmed that the dentin matrix cannot be degraded unless it is demineralized. 

These structures were recorded by a vectorial focal spot scanning in a spiral-by-spiral method rather in a raster layer-by-layer mode using a PZT stage. Such spiral structures fabricated in SU-8 have optical spot bands in near-lR [24], telecommunication [25], and 2-5 pm-IR region [26] or can be used as templates for Si infiltration [11]. It is obvious, that direct laser scanning is well suited for defect introduction into 3D PhC, as demonstrated in resin where a missing rod of a logpUe structure resulted in the appearance of a cavity mode in an optical transmission spectriun [27]. 

Cell destruction during the development of IDDM is the result of autoimmune processes. Considerable evidence supports the autoimmune nature of IDDM. This evidence includes (1) observation of lymphocyte infiltration into pancreatic islets in biopsy specimens taken from patients in early stages of IDDM (2) the identification of islet-cell autoantibodies from patients with IDDM ... 

We have proposed a mechanism by which lL-1 exerts its deleterious effects on islet function and viability (Fig. 11 Corbett et al., 1992). In this proposed mechanism, lL-1 is released by macrophages during the initial stages of islet infiltration. IL-1 binds to a specific IL-1 receptors on the /3 cell activating a tyrosine kinase. Tyrosine kinase phosphorylation stimulates second messengers to induce the expression of c-/os, c-jun, the activation of NF-xB, and possibly other early transcriptional regulators. These early-immediate transcriptional response elements may activate or stimulate the expression of inducible nitric oxide...
