INDEX standard free

Eor the free swelling index which is also known as the cmcible swelling number (ASTM D720), a coal sample is rapidly heated to 820°C in a covered cmcible. Then the profile of the resulting char is compared to a series of standard numbered profiles (18). Eor the Roga index weighed amounts of coal and standard anthracite are mixed and carbonized, and the product coke is tested in a Roga dmm for its resistance to abrasion (89). 

Quantification is by reference to an external standard solution of the feedstock appropriate to the sample to be analyzed. The method assumes that the free oil has the same refractive index as the appropriate feedstock material. 

Valko et al. [37] developed a fast-gradient RP-HPLC method for the determination of a chromatographic hydrophobicity index (CHI). An octadecylsilane (ODS) column and 50 mM aqueous ammonium acetate (pH 7.4) mobile phase with acetonitrile as an organic modifier (0-100%) were used. The system calibration and quality control were performed periodically by measuring retention for 10 standards unionized at pH 7.4. The CHI could then be used as an independent measure of hydrophobicity. In addition, its correlation with linear free-energy parameters explained some molecular descriptors, including H-bond basicity/ acidity and dipolarity/polarizability. It is noted [27] that there are significant differences between CHI values and octanol-water log D values.

In the first step, we were able to separate this penta derivative by preparative H.P.L.C. and we subsequently treated it with an excess of propyleneimine in order to reach the required hexasubstituted compound. Under such conditions, we succeeded in preparing a N3P3(MeAz)g real sample (free of chlorine, as demonstrated by neutron activation analysis) identified by mass spectrometry (Fig. 32) and by P nmr (Fig. 33) (6 = — 36 ppm with 85 % HjPO as standard, to be compared with 8(N3P3Azg) = --37 ppm). The refractive index of this sample, n = 1.4825, appeared to be significantly far from Ratz s value. 

ASTM D-720. Standard Test Method for Free-Swelling Index of Coal. 

In another test method (ASTM D-5515), a dilatometer is used to measure the swelling of bituminous coal. The test method is limited in applicability to coal that has a free swelling index < 1 (ASTM D-720). The principle of this test method is that the final volume of char obtained at the conclusion of a standard dilatation test is dependent on the mass of coal in the coal pencil and on the radius of the retort tube. This test method incorporates a procedure that determines the mass of air-dried coal in the coal pencil, provides a means to measure the average retort tube radii and employs a means to report coal expansion on an air-dried coal weight basis. The value of the dilatation properties of coals may be used to predict or explain the behavior of a coal or blends during carbonization or in other processes, such as gasification and combustion. 

A substance is said to be chemically pure when it is made up of identical atoms and molecules. This means that the concept of purity can only apply to a single element or compound. As essential oils are made up of mixtures of organic compounds, they cannot be strictly chemically pure. Chemical purity and composition have to be related to an odour profile and be free from any contamination. Standard samples are used for reference when considering the purity of an essential oil, and the analytical techniques of GC-MS, refractive index and other methods previously described are applied. A standard sample or standard oil is a sample of a product that conforms to a specification for that product. It is kept for purposes of comparison with batch samples and used in quality evaluation.
