Incoming shipments

Receiving area incoming shipments are unloaded, and inspected if necessary (transfer area). 

Three departments are critical quality, research and development, and purchasing. These three areas need to be represented because they have a large body of knowledge about the present system. Try to get people from those three departments who also have knowledge of other areas. The last three departments can add additional information about the suppliers that may not be readily known to the others. The operators can be critical as they are the ones that have contact with the material or are handling the incoming shipments. The input of the operators about how material comes in and how it works in the process can be very helpful in the reduction process.

The minimum size of storage tank should be 25,000 1 but preferably tanks have volumes of 40,000 1 or more. Tank should accommodate minimum working inventory plus the size of incoming shipments. 

Warehouse sizing determines the storage capacity of a warehouse. If, under normal conditions of use, employees do not open sealed containers of hazardous chemicals, such as in warehousing or retail sales, the distributor need only maintain the SDSs that are sent with incoming shipments. If an employee requests an SDS and it is not available, the distributor must contact the manufacturer and request one. The primary difference is that the warehouse or hardware store does not have to maintain a complete file of data sheets. This simplifies the paperwork for operations where hundreds of different chemicals pass through, but are never opened or worked with. 

Maintain copies of any safety data sheets that are received with incoming shipments of the sealed containers of hazardous chemicals, must obtain a SDS as soon as possible for sealed containers of hazardous chemicals received without a safety data sheet if an employee requests the safety data sheet, and must ensure that the safety data sheets are readily accessible during each work shift to employees when they are in their work area(s) and...
