Income indicator

Even though birth rates are dropping all over the world, thanks to increases in food security, affluence, and urbanization, the world s population will probably exceed 8 billion (up from today s 6.5 billion) by 2030 and might reach 9 billion by 2050.1 Rising incomes indicate that we ll provide high-quality diets (resource-costly meat, milk, and fruit) for perhaps 8 billion people in 2050, instead of for the one billion who can afford them today. There will even be a pet food challenge, with perhaps 500 million companion cats and dogs in an affluent, one-child China alone.

The first step is the construction of a welfare measure, which is required to correctly rank households according to their standard of living. The most typical welfare indicators are per capita consumption or income, sometimes per adult equivalent consumption or income. A good welfare measure should be comprehensive and comparable across space, time, and different types of households. The proflt-to-investmentratio (PIR) may be defined in many ways, and is most meaningful when deflated and discounted. On an undeflated and undiscounted basis, the PIR may be defined as the ratio of the cumulative cash surplus to the capital investment. Ventilation efficiency Indices that provide a method of assessing the mixing characteristics of incoming air with the room air. It presents a means of determining the pollutant distribution within the space. 

Variation in the actual brake horsepower required to operate a mixer is the primary indicator of its performance envelope. Mixer design, whether propeller- or screw-type, is based on the viscosity of both the incoming and finished product. These variables determine the brake horsepower required to drive the mixer, which will follow variations in the viscosity of the products being mixed. As the viscosity increases so will the brake horsepower demand. Conversely, as the viscosity decreases, so will the horsepower required driving the mixer. 

Flame dynamics is intimately related to combustion instability and noise radiation. In this chapter, relationships between these different processes are described by making use of systematic experiments in which laminar flames respond to incident perturbations. The response to incoming disturbances is examined and expressions of the radiated pressure are compared with the measurements of heat release rate in the flame. The data indicate that flame dynamics determines the radiation of sound from flames. Links between combustion noise and combustion instabilities are drawn on this basis. These two aspects, usually treated separately, appear as manifestations of the same dynamical process.
