There are three types of mass transport processes within a microfluidic system convection, diffusion, and immigration. Much more common are mixtures of three types of mass transport. In the late 19th century successive waves of immigrants flooded into U.S. cities from Italy, Ireland, Germany, and other countries. The neighborhoods in which they settled were often perceived to be crime ridden, and an increasing number of gun control measures were passed in response. Finally, in 1911, New York State enacted the Sullivan Law, which was the first state law that created a strict permit system for handgun ownership. 

Britain s new instrument of subversion in the United States was controlled elements of Italian and Chinese immigration, combined with the Order of Zion entity that had been in place since 1843. By the turn of the century, the different ethnic networks became so intertwined that, for generic purposes, the name "organized crime" applies to all of them. 

Khat has been recognized as a substance of abuse with increasing popularity. It is estimated that 10 million people chew khat worldwide, and it is used by up to 80% of adults in Somalia and Yemen. It now extends to immigrant African communities in the UK and USA. It is banned in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco, Sudan, and Kuwait. It is also banned in the USA and European countries. However, in Australia, its importation is controlled by a licence issued by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, which allows up to 5 kg of khat per month per individual for personal use. 

A small experiment in a semi-isolated guava thicket near Kilauea volcano on Hawaii failed to give significant control because of immigrating fertile females.
