Imaging analysis

Spectral Dimensions has produced the Blend Monitor, which claims to be the first system based on chemical imaging that operates on a process scale. The prototype, based on NIR spectroscopy, takes spectral images of the powder at-line through a quartz window integrated into the blender itself. The data obtained allow decisions to be made as to whether the blending is complete or more time is required. The process does need to be stopped for the measurements to take place but samples do not need to be removed and, of course, the technique is nondestructive. It is hoped the next prototype will allow measurements to be taken continuously while the blender is turning so that the process does not need to be interrupted. [Pg.245]
